The FBI has been filled with corruption for years. Donald Trump is hoping to change that.

And the Trump admin is shutting down FBI HQ in a jaw-dropping development.

FBI to Relocate Headquarters to Ronald Reagan Building in Historic Move

FBI Director Kash Patel has announced the relocation of the agency’s headquarters from the aging J. Edgar Hoover Building to the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. The decision, celebrated by President Donald Trump, marks a significant milestone in modernizing the FBI’s infrastructure. Trump, speaking to Fox News Digital, praised the move, stating, “The FBI will finally have the kind of building they deserve.”

In an internal memo sent to FBI employees on Tuesday, exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital, Patel outlined the relocation plan, emphasizing that it represents the “most cost-effective way” to serve the American public. The move follows years of discussions about upgrading the FBI’s headquarters, with the J. Edgar Hoover Building, operational since 1975, long criticized for its outdated and inadequate facilities.

Patel first hinted at this shift in May, signaling plans to redistribute the FBI’s workforce nationwide and vacate the Hoover Building. For over a decade, the FBI and the General Services Administration (GSA) have explored alternative locations, including sites in Maryland and Virginia, to replace the aging structure.

In his memo, Patel addressed FBI employees directly: “Team, the FBI Headquarters will be moving down the street to the Ronald Reagan Building, and the Hoover building will be shut down.”

He described the Ronald Reagan Building as a modern, secure facility that aligns with the FBI’s status as “the world’s premier law enforcement agency.” Patel added, “After nearly 20 years of constant churn surrounding the matter, we’ve finally gotten it done.”

President Trump echoed this enthusiasm, calling the Ronald Reagan Building “a wonderful building” and commending the FBI as “a wonderful group of people.” He congratulated Patel, along with Dan Bongino and the FBI workforce, on achieving this long-overdue transition.

The relocation promises significant benefits, including a state-of-the-art workspace that supports the FBI’s mission while optimizing taxpayer resources. Patel noted in the memo that the move will provide “our awesome workforce, a modern, safe, and superior HQ location that will allow us to build for the future and maintain mission success while being tremendous stewards of taxpayer dollars.”

The transition will occur in phases to ensure security and technology requirements are met. Patel acknowledged the complexity of the process, stating, “We need to ensure our security and technology requirements are in place before HQ employees can begin making the move, in phases.”

He urged employees to remain patient and thanked them for their dedication, adding, “Please join me in celebrating this historic milestone for the FBI.”

A source familiar with the decision described the Hoover Building to Fox News Digital as “a dump” that poses safety risks not only to FBI employees but also to national security. The source praised the administration’s decisive action, noting:

“The FBI has long badly needed significant upgrades and after decades of debating, the president, administration and Director Patel are delivering — allowing the bureau to far better serve the American people at a much lower cost to taxpayers than the alternatives.”

Patel has been vocal about the Hoover Building’s shortcomings, previously stating it is “unsafe for our workforce.” He emphasized the need for a facility that matches the FBI’s prestige, saying, “If you’re going to come work at the premier law enforcement agency in the world, we’re going to give you a building that’s commensurate with that, and that’s not this place.”

The General Services Administration had estimated in 2024 that constructing a new FBI headquarters would take over a decade. By opting for the Ronald Reagan Building, Patel’s plan bypasses lengthy construction timelines, delivering a faster, more cost-efficient solution.

Working closely with Congress and the GSA, Patel aims to execute the move swiftly, ensuring the FBI can continue its critical work without interruption.

As the FBI prepares for this transformative chapter, Patel expressed gratitude to the agency’s employees, writing, “And welcome to your new FBI, and your new FBI HQ.”
