The former president is on a crusade to take back the White House. But what he just got in the mail could be a game-changer.
And Trump is speechless after a bombshell election report hit his desk.
Former President Donald Trump extended his advantage over President Joe Biden in a new NBC survey on Sunday, as respondents gave the incumbent low scores across the board.
Trump, 77, now leads Biden, 81, by 47% to 42% among registered voters, up from 46% to 44% in the outlet’s November poll.
“This is the biggest lead NBC has ever had in 16 polls for Donald Trump over Joe Biden,” NBC’s political correspondent Steve Kornacki told “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
NBC has been conducting polling on Trump vs. Biden for around five years. Historically, Biden has had an advantage over his predecessor, but this began to shift last year.
Last July, Biden claimed a 49% to 45% advantage over Trump, but by September, they were tied at 46%. Then, in November, Trump surged ahead.
The most recent poll, conducted between January 26 and 30, surveyed 1,000 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
When third-party candidates were included, Trump’s lead grew to six points, defeating Biden 41% to 35%, with a Libertarian candidate grabbing 5%, the Green Party gaining 5%, and No Labels gaining 4%.
The survey did not include environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. or independent presidential contender Cornel West.
Former US ambassador to the United Nations and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley outperformed Biden 45% to 36% in the survey.
Biden’s campaign has yet to comment on the survey. However, Matt Barreto, a former 2020 Biden campaign pollster, had some issues about the sampling to The Post.
“It over-represents white voters and conservatives and under-represents Democrats and Latinos. It’s critical to point out a poll’s shortcomings, just as much as its findings, before pundits jump to conclusions about the state of the race — especially when it appears as an outlier when placed in the context of other polls,” he said.
“We know that 2024 will be extremely close and we also know pre-election polls will be all over the place.”
Separately, a subset of Republican respondents polled preferred Trump over Haley 79% to 19% in the GOP primary, where Trump is the clear favorite.
NBC’s poll also revealed a few danger signs for Biden ahead of a potential rematch with Trump on November 5.
Biden’s job approval rating has fallen to 37%, with 60% disapproving of his performance in office. This is the lowest rating NBC has had since former President George W. Bush.
In the poll, Biden received 41% of Latino voters’ support, compared to 42% for Trump. Biden leads Trump 38%-26% among young voters aged 18-34.
By a margin of 21 percent, respondents indicated they trust Trump more than Biden when it comes to possessing the “necessary mental and physical health to be president.”
