VP debate moderators blasted for this ruthless attack against JD Vance

Moderators promised they’d play by the rules for this debate. But of course the opposite happened.

As these VP debate moderators were blasted for this ruthless attack against JD Vance.

CBS moderators Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan faced backlash online for fact-checking Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and muting his microphone, despite the debate’s rules prohibiting such actions.

Vance, the Republican vice presidential candidate, took the stage against Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN), the Democratic running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, during Tuesday night’s debate ahead of the 2024 elections. During the event, Vance criticized President Joe Biden and Harris for what he called open-border policies, blaming them for various crises in cities like Springfield, Ohio, which he argued has been harmed by illegal immigration.

“The people I am most concerned about in Springfield, Ohio, are the American citizens who have had their lives destroyed by Kamala Harris’s open border. It is a disgrace,” Vance stated.

Before moving to the next topic, Brennan paused to fact-check Vance, telling viewers, “Just to clarify for our viewers, Springfield, Ohio, does have a large number of Haitian migrants who have legal status, temporary-protected status.”

As Brennan and O’Donnell tried to proceed, Vance interrupted, pointing out that debate rules did not permit fact-checking. He then explained the Biden administration’s “CBP app,” which he claimed grants legal status to immigrants “at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand,” contrasting this with the lengthy process for those applying for green cards legally.

“That is the flirtation of illegal immigration, Margaret, by our own leadership, and Kamala Harris opened up that pathway,” Vance continued.

As the debate intensified, Walz attempted to chime in, only to have his microphone, along with Vance’s, muted.

“The audience can’t hear you because your mics are cut,” Brennan explained.

The incident quickly stirred reactions on social media. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, “The CBS moderators just MUTED JD Vance’s mic as he called them out for their lies about Kamala Harris’ open border policies. DISGRACEFUL.”

Political commentator Collin Rugg also noted how Vance pushed back against the moderators’ attempt to fact-check him. “JD Vance fact-checks the CBS moderators after they tried ‘fact-checking’ him about the Haitian migrant crisis in Springfield, Ohio,” Rugg said.

Libs of TikTok called the moment “incredible,” while Outkick founder Clay Travis praised Vance’s handling of the situation. “Here is JD Vance destroying the CBS moderators,” Travis wrote, sharing a video of the heated exchange.

The Trump campaign responded as well. “@JDVance just fact-checked CBS News’ @NorahODonnell and @margbrennan’s ‘fact check’ on Kamala Harris’ app that allows illegal aliens to enter this country,” the Trump War Room account posted. “They got so annoyed that they cut off his mic.”

Observers questioned CBS’s potential bias, with some pointing to the framing of the debate questions as evidence of favoritism towards Walz. Author and commentator Andy McCarthy commented, “CBS doesn’t think anyone sees this? When they ask Vance to respond, they load the question to shield Walz’s last answer. When they ask Walz to respond, it’s ‘however you want to respond, big guy.’ And still, Vance is in command.”

Quin Hillyer, a commentary writer for the Washington Examiner, questioned the fairness of mainstream media, asking, “ANYBODY in the establishment media have a friggin clue how to be remotely fair, or what journalistic ethics entails?”

Despite the controversy surrounding the moderators, Vance was still able to put on a masterclass of a performance during this debate and shutdown any doubts about him performing the duties of vice president.
