The Biden administration has failed to secure the border. But that’s just the beginning.

According to The Washington Post, it is highly unlikely that any of the 2 million immigrants who were allowed to enter the interior of the United States after crossing the southern border would be deported.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are unlikely to take action as an unprecedented amount of immigrants since President Joe Biden’s administration wait for court dates, according to immigration experts quoted by the source.
The American Immigration Council estimates that 1.9 million of the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants now living in the United States have been issued a final order of deportation by a federal judge but have refused to leave the country.
According to Colleen Putzel-Kavanaugh, research assistant at the Migration Policy Institute, “given existing staffing constraints and the redirection of ICE resources to the southern border, it is highly unlikely that the agency will be able to keep up with removal orders now or ahead without the allocation of major new resources for interior enforcement.”
Conservative Center for Immigration Studies fellow Andrew Arthur largely agreed with Putzel-Kavanaugh.
Former immigration judge Arthur told the Examiner, “Those aliens are here indefinitely, if not forever.”
Cato Institute’s associate director of immigration research David Bier in Washington, DC, believes that some immigrants will voluntarily leave the country.
“In general, it’s quite unlikely that someone released at the border would be put on an ICE plane and flown out of the country, though a very substantial number of those ordered removed do leave voluntarily after some time,” Bier informed the Examiner.
The legal process can take anywhere from five to ten years, but Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has allegedly committed to deport eligible deportees.
There have been about 5 million persons trying to cross the U.S.-Mexico border illegally since February 2021. Most of the 2 million immigrants who were allowed to enter the United States did so through a policy known as “catch and release.”
Agents at the border process, fingerprint, and check the criminal records of illegal immigrants they catch.
According to the Examiner, those who are freed are either allowed back into the neighborhood by Border Patrol or are physically taken to ICE before being released.
“Once someone is processed and released into the U.S. interior, they have one year to apply for asylum,” Putzel-Kavanaugh told the Examiner.
“So the current numbers available are not necessarily an indicator of recent arrivals applying for asylum.”
According to the Examiner, ICE is required to take action within 90 days of an immigration judge’s determination that an individual fits the threshold for deportation.
So not only are record numbers of illegal immigrants pouring over our southern border in recent years, but our President’s administration likely won’t do anything about it to deport them.
This issue is what many experts believe handed Donald Trump the Presidency back in 2016, and it could be another major talking about for Trump’s 2024 campaign.
