The Chinese have been expanding their power for decades. Now they’re going in for the kill.
And this Chinese threat put the White House at DEFCON 1.
Most of the world and America’s politicians have been focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Since Putin invaded last year, the United States has sent almost $40 billion in military and financial aid.
Meanwhile, China has slid under the radar as they continue to expand their influence in all corners of the globe.
Through their “Belt and Road Initiative,” 151 countries have signed up to indebt themselves to the Communist regime.
And that doesn’t even touch their military expansion and threats to the Taiwan.
But now they’re coming for America directly.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Communist China has agreed to create an electronic espionage facility in Cuba, around 100 miles off the American coast.
The agreement, which is reputedly worth billions of dollars and has been reached in principle, will allow China to build a facility capable of intercepting communications in the southeastern United States, which is home to dozens of military sites. The Journal also notes the Chinese spy facility may potentially monitor US maritime activity.
Per the report, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said he couldn’t react specifically to the disturbing story, but the planned espionage post in Cuba has created concern within the Biden administration.
The Chinese station will let Beijing monitor emails, phone calls, and satellite signals using espionage monitoring technology known as SIGINT.
“While I cannot speak to this specific report, we are well aware of — and have spoken many times too — the People’s Republic of China’s efforts to invest in infrastructure around the world that may have military purposes, including in this hemisphere,” Kirby said.
“We monitor it closely, take steps to counter it, and remain confident that we are able to meet all our security commitments at home, in the region, and around the world.”
The news of a possible Chinese surveillance program targeting the United States from close beyond its borders comes as ties between the two world giants worsen.
China has reportedly heightened tensions as it considers an invasion of Taiwan, but the United States has held firm by Taiwan, selling armaments and deploying a small number of troops to the island over which China claims sovereignty. Later this month, Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit to China to meet with communist ruler Xi Jinping.
Earlier this week, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) stated that recent occurrences indicate to “unbelievable aggression” leveled against Western nations by communist China.
“Well, what we’re seeing is an unbelievable aggression by China,” Turner told ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday.
“If you look at the balloon that flew over the United States, the Chinese police stations, the aggressiveness against our both planes and ships in international water, it goes right to the heart of what President Xi said when he stood next to Putin in Russia, where he said, they’re trying to make change that had not happened in 100 years.”
According to some experts, China believes that establishing a station in Cuba would level the playing field because the US has a presence in Taiwan, which is located off China’s coast.
While the United States has not officially changed the DEFCON level, this new development should worry anyone concerned about America’s national security.
“Establishing this facility signals a new, escalatory phase in China’s broader defense strategy. It’s a bit of a game changer,” Craig Singleton, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told the Journal. “The selection of Cuba is also intentionally provocative.”
