The Biden family is having a rough time. All their dirty laundry is being aired out for the public.
But now Hunter Biden is facing prison time after making this huge court mistake.
During his Tuesday morning hearing in a federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, Hunter Biden pleaded innocent to three guns offenses.
On the grounds that Hunter Biden lied on a federal document when buying a gun five years ago, Special Counsel David Weiss indicted the president’s son in mid-September. U.S. District Court in Delaware received the four-page indictment, which alleges that in October 2018, Hunter “knowingly made a false and fictitious written statement, intended and likely to deceive” a dealer into selling him a Colt Cobra revolver.
According to the indictment, Hunter falsely claimed on an ATF form that “he was not an unlawful user of, and addicted to any stimulant, narcotic drug, and any other controlled substance,” even though he was well aware that this was untrue.
In his latest memoir, Biden admitted that he had an addiction problem and that, around the time he bought the gun, he was shooting crack about every 15 minutes.
Weiss had earlier negotiated a plea agreement with Biden in late July that would have allowed the president’s son to escape jail time in exchange for frequent drug tests and good behavior, so the indictment was a complete about-face on his part.
After District Court judge Maryellen Noreika raised concerns about the extensive immunity Hunter would obtain from any future charges, including those that could arise from the House Republicans’ ongoing investigation of foreign influence-peddling operations, the accord broke apart.
During their conversation, Noreika inquired of Weiss if there was “any precedent for agreeing not to prosecute crimes that have nothing to do with the case or the charges being diverted.” To which Weiss said, “I am not aware of any,” there is no such thing.
Both Republicans and Democrats reacted strongly to the indictment. When asked for comment, former president Donald Trump took to his social media site, Truth Social, where he wrote, “the gun charge, is the only crime that Hunter Biden committed that does not implicate Crooked Joe Biden.” Trump then exclaimed, “One down, Eleven to go!”
“The Democrats, with all of their horrible, very unfair, and mostly illegal Witch Hunts, have started a process that is very dangerous for our Country. They have opened the proverbial Pandora’s Box, and it is possible that the USA will never be the same again. SO SAD!!!” Trump added.
Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on Twitter to express her confusion about why Joe Biden hasn’t been charged with “tax fraud…money laundering, and sex trafficking.” Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential contender, has dubbed the indictment a “smokescreen” that is “diverting attention away from the true problem,” which he claims is the “selling out of U.S. foreign policy for their own family’s private financial gain.”
Maryland Democrat Jamie Raskin made the analogy that both Hunter and Trump should be afforded the benefits of due process and the presumption of innocence following their respective indictments.
Raskin told reporters after the FBI indictment, “I don’t think people should applaud the system when it works for Hunter Biden and then try to tear the system down when it works for Donald Trump.” “We shouldn’t take delight in other people’s misfortunes, but we have to have a rule of law.”
The legal team for Vice President Biden had originally asked for a virtual arraignment. Attorney Abbe Lowell stated, “We respectfully request that the Court hold Mr. Biden’s initial appearance in this matter by video conference,” adding that Hunter was “not seeking any special treatment in making this request.”
U.S. Magistrate Judge Christopher Burke, however, dismissed the request and insisted that Biden travel from California to attend the hearing, stating that Biden “should not receive special treatment in this matter.”
If convicted, Biden faces a maximum of 25 years in prison and fines of over $1 million.
Furthermore, the federal judge overseeing the case likely won’t take too kindly to the idea that Hunter Biden almost got off with a sweetheart plea deal and is now pleading not guilty, especially if he is convicted.
The court will take into account that the defense was not entirely forthcoming when considering sentencing in the event of a conviction.
