Trump’s court woes have been well-documented this year. But now he has something to celebrate.
And Donald Trump is grinning ear to ear after being handed this court victory.
During Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and even during his presidency, one of the biggest topics discussed were his tax returns.
You may remember MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow releasing his 2005 federal tax info on The Rachel Maddow Show in March of 2017.
That of course turned into a huge nothing-burger as Maddow basically showed that Trump paid his taxes contrary to the popular claim from Democrats that he hadn’t paid them for years.
The obsession of the former President’s taxes didn’t stop there.
Last week, Charles Littlejohn, a former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) consultant entered a guilty plea for illegally sharing Donald Trump’s tax info (as well as others) from the years 2018 to 2020.
Littlejohn shared this information to multiple news outlets.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) claimed that the number of leaked tax returns were in the “thousands” and included “the nation’s wealthiest individuals.”
“By using his role as a government contractor to gain access to private tax information, steal that information, and disclose it publicly, Charles Littlejohn broke federal law and betrayed the public’s trust,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said.
“In every case, the Department of Justice is committed to following the facts wherever they lead and holding accountable those who violate our laws.”
The DOJ also revealed that Littlejohn used personal devices to store the classified tax information.
One of these personal items included an Apple iPod.
According to Fox News, the news outlets in which the tax info was leaked, were the New York Times and Pro Publica.
Charles Littlejohn will now have his sentencing on January 29 of next year.
A five-year prison sentence could be in the cards for the disgraced IRS consultant.
Remember, the IRS earlier this year announced that they were hiring armed agents to their Criminal Investigation division.
It’s honestly a little frightening to think that corrupt individuals like Littlejohn exist in the government and could have the potential to be armed.
Thankfully justice will be served and individuals like Donald Trump won’t have to worry about him revealing any more private financial information to the world.
