The former Democrat president is scheming. He wants power again.
And a former GOP House Speaker has revealed Obama’s secret bid for the White House.
In a striking assertion, former Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has suggested that former President Barack Obama is playing a significant behind-the-scenes role in Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
Speaking on 770 WABC’s “The Cats Roundtable” on Sunday, McCarthy alleged that Obama is orchestrating Harris’ campaign by leveraging his trusted team of political strategists.
“If you’re watching the campaign now, some of Obama’s [key people such as] David Plouffe and others are now working on the campaign,” McCarthy stated. “You’re getting the Obamas shifting from running the White House to now running this campaign.”
Obama’s inner circle, known for its successful management of his presidential campaigns, is indeed well-represented in Harris’ campaign team. Among them is David Plouffe, who served as Obama’s campaign manager during the 2008 election and later became a key adviser in the White House.
Plouffe, known for his strategic acumen, has taken on a senior advisory role in Harris’ campaign, bringing his experience from not only the political arena but also his advisory work with companies like TikTok and Uber.
Another notable Obama-era figure, Eric Holder, who served as Attorney General under Obama, was instrumental in the vetting process for Harris’ choice of a vice-presidential running mate. The presence of these seasoned operatives has fueled speculation about Obama’s influence over Harris’ bid for the presidency.
Harris has also enlisted Stephanie Cutter, a former deputy campaign manager for Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, to serve as her senior adviser for strategy messaging. Additionally, Jim Margolis, the ad-maker who played a crucial role in Obama’s campaigns and Harris’ 2020 campaign, is expected to join her team again, as reported by Politico.
Further adding to the list is Jennifer Palmieri, who served as director of communications for the White House under Obama and later for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. Palmieri has been brought on board as a senior adviser to Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, further solidifying the presence of Obama-era expertise in the Harris campaign.
Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, the chairwoman of Harris’ 2024 campaign, also brings her experience from the Obama-Biden 2020 campaign, rounding out a team steeped in Obama’s legacy.
Despite these connections, a former top adviser to Obama dismissed the notion that the former president is directing Harris’ campaign. The adviser emphasized that it is common for experienced Democratic strategists to work on successive presidential campaigns, underscoring that Obama would only get involved if specifically asked by Harris.
During his interview with John Catsimatidis, McCarthy did not shy away from criticizing Harris and her political choices.
He labeled her as a “San Francisco liberal” and took aim at her selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, describing the Harris-Walz ticket as “the most liberal ticket in the history of American politics.”
McCarthy also criticized Harris for overlooking Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, a key figure in the battleground state, as her vice-presidential pick.
He questioned Harris’ ability to stand up to her party, particularly on issues related to Israel, pointing to her absence during the Israeli Prime Minister’s address to Congress as a concerning sign.
Moreover, McCarthy blamed Harris for her role in passing President Biden’s pandemic-related stimulus bills, where she cast the tie-breaking vote as the presiding officer of the Senate.
He argued that this decision has contributed to the inflation currently burdening American families.
As the 2024 presidential race heats up, these claims and the involvement of Obama-era strategists in Harris’ campaign are sure to fuel further debate about the dynamics at play behind the scenes.
