Star athlete defends President Trump in a surprise to many

Famous people don’t usually support Trump. But when they do, it’s a major shock.

And this star athlete defended President Trump in a surprise to many.

Veteran NBA big man Tristan Thompson is making waves with his straightforward support for President Donald Trump’s tough stance on illegal immigration. As a legal immigrant himself, Thompson isn’t afraid to speak truth about putting those who follow the rules ahead of line-jumpers and border crossers.

“What President [Donald] Trump is doing, first of all, I love what he’s done so far for our country,” Thompson said while appearing on “The Katie Miller Podcast.”

“I think he’s helped our country a lot.”

The Canadian-born center, who recently suited up for the Cleveland Cavaliers, knows the immigrant journey from personal experience. He became a U.S. citizen in 2020 during Trump’s first term, and he credits the system that rewards hard work and respect for the law.

Thompson draws a clear line that many Americans wish politicians would enforce. “In terms of where he stands with [immigration], I think…I’m a firm believer because I have family members and I have people that are immigrants,” he said.

“I believe for those that do the thing the right way and get the papers, I think they should be taken care of first and foremost. I think that’s the right thing. I think that’s the right way of going about it.”

This common-sense message lands hard in today’s divided climate. While coastal elites push open borders and endless amnesty, Thompson reminds everyone that fair play matters. Legal immigrants who jump through the hoops deserve priority over those who treat America’s borders like suggestions.

The NBA player acknowledged the human side of immigration cases without going soft on enforcement. He described some folks stuck “in-between states” with their paperwork and called for handling situations individually.

“I think it should be case by case on the right people. I understand where he’s coming from, but for me, it varies depending on who the person is,” he stated.

Thompson’s own path shows what legal immigration can achieve when done properly. Born in Canada, he arrived on a student visa chasing basketball glory and bigger opportunities.

He embraced the process fully and earned his citizenship the honest way.

“I came to the U.S. on a student visa and have always had big dreams. I’m now truly living the American dream,” Thompson stated.

He even pushed back on claims that his NBA fame sped things up. Thompson told Miller the fast approval came because of pandemic backlogs being cleared, not special treatment.

Right now, Trump’s administration is delivering the strong border policies millions voted for in November of 2024.

Deportations are ramping up, illegal crossings are dropping, and the focus stays on protecting American workers and communities from the chaos of unchecked migration.
