It’s been days. But finally the details are flowing out.
Now this update on Secret Service shooting is raising eyebrows nationwide.
Secret Service Firearm Incident Involving Jill Biden Detail
A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to the protective detail of former First Lady Jill Biden accidentally discharged his service weapon while on duty at Philadelphia International Airport on March 27, 2026. The incident resulted in a non-life-threatening self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Clarification of the Injury and Circumstances
Initial reports from the Secret Service described the injury as a wound to the leg.
Subsequent reporting, including from RealClearPolitics correspondent Susan Crabtree, specified that the agent shot himself in the buttocks while attempting to holster his firearm.
A Secret Service spokesman confirmed to the New York Post that the agent sustained an unintentional, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hip area, consistent with the updated details.
Philadelphia police indicated the discharge occurred while the agent was inside an unmarked Chevrolet SUV.
The former First Lady was not present at the scene, and the event did not affect her schedule or movements.
No other individuals were injured.
One early account suggested the agent may have been using a flashlight attached to his firearm to search for a misplaced cell phone, but the Secret Service stated this detail was not reported from the scene.
Ongoing Investigation and Agency Response
The Secret Service classified the event as a “negligent discharge” and has referred the matter to its Office of Professional Responsibility for investigation.
The agency has declined to provide further specifics on the probe, citing concerns that additional comments could compromise future interviews.
This incident marks another instance of an accidental firearm discharge within the agency during a protective assignment. The agent received medical attention and is expected to recover fully from the injury.
