The Democrat Party had a brutal election night. Now they’re fighting with each other over the poor results.
And Democrats can’t believe their eyes after this leading Leftist puts the party on blast.
Sanders Urges Democrats to Reconnect with Working Class Amid Claims of a ‘Woke Agenda’
In a pointed critique following the recent 2024 election, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stressed the need for the Democratic Party to prioritize the concerns of working-class Americans.
Sanders’ comments come in the wake of a significant Republican victory, with President-elect Donald Trump defeating Vice President Kamala Harris and sweeping all seven swing states. This outcome has sparked discussions on the Democratic Party’s current direction and strategy, with some questioning whether it has strayed too far from the core issues that matter to everyday workers.
Sanders, who comfortably secured re-election in Vermont, has been vocal in his concerns, arguing that the Democratic Party has drifted away from its working-class roots. Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, he emphasized that Democrats need to show stronger support for economic policies aimed at benefiting working Americans.
“We need an agenda that says to the working class, we’re going to take on these powerful special interests and create an economy and a government that works for you,” Sanders asserted.
CNN’s Dana Bash pointed out that social and cultural divides are at play, with critics suggesting that Democrats have become overly focused on a “woke agenda.”
Sanders responded by acknowledging that Republicans, particularly Trump, have successfully painted Democrats as singularly focused on these issues, saying, “Trump has done a good job in claiming that Democrats do nothing more than the woke agenda.”
While Sanders affirmed his support for progressive causes such as women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, and civil rights, he suggested that these should not overshadow the party’s commitment to economic issues impacting most Americans.
“The Democrats should be proud of standing up for women’s rights and abortion rights and gay rights and civil rights. But the emphasis got to be … to make it clear that we are prepared to stand with the vast majority of the people, many of whom are falling further and further behind, while the people on top [are] phenomenally wealthy,” he said.
Earlier in the week, Sanders issued a public statement charging that Democrats have “abandoned working class people.”
Although union leaders have consistently endorsed the Biden administration, and President Joe Biden has called himself the most pro-labor president in American history, the election results showed a clear shift.
Harris notably struggled with voters making under $100,000—a demographic that Biden had won with 56% support in 2020. This year, that same group favored Trump, 50% to 46%, adding to a list of traditionally Democratic subgroups that have swung Republican this election cycle.
Some prominent Democrats, however, have pushed back on Sanders’ claims. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi expressed her disagreement, maintaining that the party remains committed to working families.
“I have a great deal of respect for him, for what he stands for,” Pelosi told The New York Times, “but I don’t respect him saying that the Democratic Party has abandoned the working-class families. That’s where we are.”
As Democrats reflect on the 2024 outcome, Sanders’ critique serves as a reminder of the balancing act the party faces: standing by their woke ideology while actively addressing the economic and social concerns of the working-class base.
The question now is how the party will reconcile these elements moving forward.
So far they haven’t done a good job of it, as this latest election proves that working class families are more concerned with how they’re going to put food on the table and not the woke agenda.
