Trump’s term hasn’t started yet and the Left is already losing it. They can’t believe who he’s picking to join his administration.

And this CNN host was caught live on air in disbelief over who Donald Trump picked for Attorney General.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper was visibly taken aback when news broke that President-elect Donald Trump had nominated Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official.

“Welcome to ‘The Lead,’ I’m Jake Tapper,” the anchor began. “And let me begin the show by uttering some words that I never contemplated using together before. And those words are ‘US Attorney General Matt Gaetz.’”

Tapper’s reaction captured the shock felt across political circles following the Wednesday announcement.

The nomination, which Trump made public earlier that afternoon, has sent waves through Congress — catching even Gaetz’s fellow Republicans off-guard.

Known for his staunch allegiance to Trump, Gaetz swiftly resigned from his congressional post following the announcement, according to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

With Gaetz’s resignation, a two-year-long investigation by the House Ethics Committee also comes to an end. The committee had been examining multiple allegations against Gaetz, ranging from accusations of s*xual misconduct and improper gift acceptance to claims that he misused his office to grant special favors.

The committee was reportedly prepared to vote Friday on whether to release a “highly damaging” report about Gaetz, according to sources at Punchbowl News. However, with Gaetz’s departure, the panel no longer has jurisdiction over the case.

In his acceptance statement, Gaetz maintained his innocence and denied any wrongdoing. Trump praised his new pick as a “deeply gifted and tenacious attorney,” asserting that Gaetz would “end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.”

Trump described Gaetz as someone who would tackle corruption within the Department of Justice and bring the agency back to its core mission of fighting crime and upholding democracy.

Despite the GOP’s majority in the Senate, Gaetz’s confirmation could be an uphill battle. His nomination has reportedly raised concerns among moderate Senate Republicans, adding to the tension around his appointment.

According to what a source told the New York Post, some House GOP members in a meeting on Capitol Hill burst out laughing upon hearing the news, with one member seen laughing to the point of tears, as reported by The Hill and Politico.

If confirmed, Gaetz would succeed current Attorney General Merrick Garland, a frequent target of Trump’s criticism.

Garland previously led a s*x-trafficking investigation involving Gaetz, which the Department of Justice ultimately closed in 2023 without filing charges.

But if establishment Republicans and the radical Left are this upset about Donald Trump’s pick for Attorney General, then it’s probably safe to say he made the right choice.
