Politics is becoming a dangerous world. Safety is harder to come by these days.

And Capitol Hill is in chaos after a top Republican is targeted by a bomb threat.

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene revealed on Monday that her Georgia residence was the target of a bomb threat stemming from an email allegedly traced to a Russian IP address.

A chilling message, sent to the Rome Police Department, warned of an explosive device purportedly planted “for Palestine” in the congresswoman’s mailbox.

The email detailed the components of the alleged bomb, claiming it contained “a 1×8 inch threaded galvanized pipe, end caps, a kitchen timer, some wires, metal clips, and homemade black powder.”

The sender boasted, “I’ve constructed a pipe bomb, which I recently hid in Marjorie Taylor Greene’s mailbox. It is set to go off during the weekend but it would also explode the next time anybody opens the mailbox.”

The message also included a sinister remark about targeting law enforcement, stating, “Even if Marjorie does not open the mailbox herself, I’m still satisfied with the prospect of some pig cops losing their lives or being injured,” and concluded with the phrase: “VIVA VIVA PALESTINA.”

The threat was directed to the assistant chief of police in Rome, Ga., prompting a swift response from local authorities. A bomb squad was dispatched to Greene’s home, where they conducted an investigation and determined there was “no active threat,” according to the congresswoman.

Greene shared a video on social media that appeared to show a law enforcement officer in a bomb suit conducting tests near her mailbox around midday Monday.

“Due to the international nature and severity of this threat, my office is collaborating closely with local and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, to ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice,” Greene said in a statement.

Despite the scare, authorities have not identified any suspects publicly.

This is not the first time Greene has been targeted at her Rome, Ga., home. Since her election to Congress, she has faced at least nine incidents of swatting, where police are falsely dispatched to a location over bogus threats. Last Christmas, one such false report disrupted her family’s celebrations.

The threats against Greene come amid a rising trend of security scares targeting members of Congress. In September, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) disclosed a “very serious shooting threat” against her office.

Over Thanksgiving, several House Democrats, including Reps. Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, and John Larson, were targeted with bomb threats at their homes.

As one of the most prominent and polarizing figures in the Republican Party, Greene has frequently been at the center of controversy.

While she has at times clashed with GOP leadership, she recently indicated she would not obstruct Speaker Mike Johnson’s efforts to maintain his leadership position.

In her statement on Monday, Greene expressed gratitude to the Rome Police Department, saying, “I’m so grateful to every member of the Rome Police Department for your swift and professional response in ensuring my safety.”
