Democrat congressman threatened to be stripped of power thanks to this Republican

Congressional Democrats are in trouble. Their sway in the House is falling apart.

And this Democrat congressman has been hit with threats to have his power stripped thanks to this Republican.

The House Freedom Caucus is gearing up for a showdown, ready to ram through a vote that could yank Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, from his committee assignments. Their ultimatum? Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., better deliver a punishment that satisfies their thirst for justice—or they’ll take matters into their own hands.

“He will see what he deems appropriate, and then if that’s adequate, that’s fine,” House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris, R-Md., spilled to Fox News Digital.

“If not, then we likely will file our privileged resolution to strip him of his committees.” The conservative crew isn’t messing around—they’ve already been buzzing with Johnson’s office, hashing out their next move.

The drama kicked off last week when the Freedom Caucus dangled a resolution to boot Green from all committees. Why? The Texas Democrat turned President Donald Trump’s speech to Congress into his personal protest stage, earning himself a swift ejection from the House chamber just minutes after the address started.

“We’re gonna ask what Mike Johnson wants to do moving forward. We talked about a lot of things, but different people had different thoughts. But I guess what weighed on our minds is, he said he’s going to do it again,” Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., said to Fox News Digital. “My one thing, that kind of action needs consequences.”

Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., chimed in, hinting at the chaos still brewing: “There’s all sorts of options, and I don’t think any of them have been decided upon yet.”

Green’s antics landed him in hot water fast. Last Thursday morning, a 224-to-198 vote slapped him with a censure after he repeatedly hijacked Trump’s primetime moment.

Shouting “You have no mandate to cut Medicaid!” and waving his cane like a battle flag, Green didn’t back down as Trump bragged about GOP wins in the House, Senate, and White House. Speaker Johnson issued a warning, then had the 77-year-old hauled out.

Unfazed, Green took to X that afternoon, doubling down: “Today, the House GOP censured me for speaking out for the American people against [Trump’s] plan to cut Medicaid. I accept the consequences of my actions, but I refuse to stay silent in the face of injustice.”

But the Freedom Caucus isn’t buying the martyr act—they want blood. From slapping fines on Green to following through on their committee-stripping threat, they’re tossing around ideas like confetti.

Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., explained to Fox News Digital that he’d rather not fan the flames further but suggested a fitting punishment: wipe out Green’s seniority perks. “No seniority on offices, no seniority on parking spots, on committees—all of that,” Burlison laid out.

Green’s Democratic buddies in the House didn’t take the censure lying down. After the vote, they swarmed him on the floor, belting out “We shall overcome” as Johnson tried to read the formal censure—a move that turned the chamber into a circus. Johnson struggled to regain control, eventually hitting pause on the whole mess.

Not to be outdone, Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., another Freedom Caucus firebrand, fired back with a resolution to strip all the disruptive Democrats of their committee seats.

For now, though, Harris and Clyde say the spotlight’s locked on Green alone. “No one [else] waved a cane at the president and didn’t accept…having a censure resolution read without interruption,” Harris pointed out. Clyde piled on: “And nobody else had to be thrown out.”

Speaker Johnson, meanwhile, confirmed he’s in deep talks with the Freedom Caucus to figure out Green’s fate. “I talked to Freedom Caucus members and other Republicans who are deeply concerned about this,” he told Fox News’ “Outnumbered” on Friday.

“They say we have to restore control one way or the other and there need to be real consequences, and it’s something that we’ll be looking at early next week.”

Will Green’s defiance cost him his clout? The Freedom Caucus is ready to pull the trigger and Johnson’s move might just decide how this showdown ends.
