Democrat governor caught scheming to destroy the Electoral College for good

The Left doesn’t like to lose elections. But when they do, they try and change the rules so they can win.

And this Democrat governor was caught scheming to destroy the Electoral College for good.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) called for the abolition of the Electoral College during a speech on Tuesday, asserting that the popular vote should “prevail” in presidential elections.

Speaking in Albany as she oversaw New York’s ceremonial Electoral College vote, Hochul proposed amending the U.S. Constitution to eliminate the system and consign it “to the history books.”

The governor’s remarks came as she joined state leaders to formally cast New York’s 28 Electoral College votes for Kamala Harris.

“We, the people, forming a more perfect union, and I strongly believe that the people of New York state and the United States of America should and must have their votes count equally and that the popular vote should prevail,” Hochul said, criticizing the Electoral College for giving smaller states “outsized influence” in presidential elections.

According to the Electoral College, established in 1787, each state is assigned a number of electoral votes proportional to its population, and a candidate must secure at least 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. This system has long been debated, with critics arguing it can produce outcomes where the candidate with fewer votes nationwide still wins the presidency.

Hochul expressed concern about such scenarios, specifically pointing to the 2016 election when Donald Trump won the presidency despite losing the popular vote.

Trump received 306 Electoral College votes, a result Hochul described as “the worst case scenario,” emphasizing that “a person can become president of the United States even if he or she did not win the popular vote.”

Her comments align with a growing chorus of Democratic leaders advocating for change. New York State Senator James Skoufis, a contender for the Democratic National Committee chairmanship, has been vocal in opposing the Electoral College.

On the federal level, Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Peter Welch (D-VT) have recently introduced legislation to propose a constitutional amendment abolishing the system.

This debate has also featured prominently in the current election cycle. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who ran as Vice President Harris’s running mate, sparked controversy earlier this year when he suggested eliminating the Electoral College.

His remarks were later clarified by campaign spokespeople, who stated that abolishing the system was not an official campaign position.

But if Tim Walz or Kathy Hochul got their way and the Electoral College was abolished, then that would mean major cities like Los Angeles or New York City would be the ones deciding the presidential election.

States like Wyoming, Montana, Kentucky, Indiana, or Nebraska, would basically have no say in who will become the president.

That’s exactly how the Left wants it, though. They don’t want everyday Americans being able to decide the outcome of the presidential election.

Instead, they want the elitist and political establishment class that lives in big cities to be the deciding factor. And that would be completely unfair.
