The Left wants to make sure Donald Trump’s agenda are dead on arrival. They’ll do anything in their power to make this happen.
But this Democrat Senator falls flat on their face while trying to destroy Trump’s agenda.
Sen. Mazie Hirono Grills Defense Secretary Nominee Pete Hegseth, Sparks Online Backlash
Democratic Senator Mazie Hirono’s heated questioning of defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth on Tuesday turned into a lightning rod for criticism, drawing sharp reactions from conservatives online. The 77-year-old Hawaiian senator grilled Hegseth, 44, on allegations of misconduct and posed pointed questions about hypothetical military orders, including whether he would support an invasion of Greenland.
Hirono, who has often been a target of ridicule from conservatives, raised eyebrows with her questioning. At one point, she asked: “In June of 2020, then-President Trump directed former Secretary of Defense Mark Esper to shoot protesters in the legs in downtown DC, an order Secretary Esper refused to comply with. Would you carry out such an order?”
Hegseth, a former member of the Washington DC National Guard, replied, “Senator, I was in the Washington DC National Guard unit that was in Lafayette Square. I saw 50 Secret Service agents get injured by rioters.”
Hirono responded, “That sounds to me that you will comply with such an order — you will shoot protesters in the leg.”
The exchange grew even more contentious as Hirono pressed Hegseth about another hypothetical scenario, asking if he would carry out an order from President-elect Donald Trump to use the military to invade Greenland and take back the Panama Canal.
“Senator, one of the things that President Trump is so good at is never strategically tipping his hand,” Hegseth said. “And so I would never, in this public forum, give one way or another what orders the president give to me in any context.”
Hirono shot back, “It sounds to me that you would contemplate carrying out such an order to basically invade Greenland and take over the Panama Canal.”

The line of questioning set off a wave of reactions on social media. “Painfully stupid,” user Johnny MAGA said in a post on X.
“Mazie Hirono claims Trump will use the military to conquer Greenland and the Panama Canal… The Pete Hegseth hearing has officially jumped the shark,” comedian Tim Young posted.
Townhall.com editor Jeff Charles remarked, “Sen. Masie [sic] Hirono is basically claiming Hegseth would not only shoot protesters in the leg but would also invade Greenland and Panama. Wow.”
Conservative media member Ian Haworth mocked Hirono’s performance, saying, “Hilarious to listen to Mazie Hirono question Pete Hegseth on his drinking when she sounds like your grandma after too many glasses of sherry on Christmas Eve. What’s next? Nancy Pelosi questioning Kristi Noem on the overuse of Botox?”
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) added her voice to the chorus of criticism, calling Hirono’s performance “judge, jury, and executioner based on lies and stupidity.”
Hirono also questioned Hegseth about allegations of binge-drinking and s*xual misconduct, which were based on anonymous accusations. Conservatives accused her and other Democrats of focusing on personal attacks instead of substantive issues.
“I find this grandstanding from Senate Democrats over the Hegseth confirmation perplexing,” Vice President-elect JD Vance said on X. “We haven’t won a war in three decades and we have a major recruitment challenge. Hegseth is assuredly NOT more of the same, and that’s good!”
Eric Daugherty of Florida’s Voice echoed the sentiment, stating, “The Republicans asked valuable questions and covered important issues. Democrats only did this about 10% of the time. Most of the filibustering from Democrats was just incoherent and unrelated to the job as secretary of defense.”
Thankfully for Donald Trump and the Republicans, Hegseth is still expected to secure confirmation by the full Senate in the recent future.
