Democrat Senator is getting sentenced for this disgusting crime

The Left rarely gets what they deserve. But one man hasn’t been so lucky.

And now a Democrat Senator is getting sentenced for this disgusting crime.

Disgraced former Sen. Bob Menendez has requested a delay in his upcoming sentencing, citing the emotional strain of facing it while his wife, Nadine Menendez, undergoes her own trial and battles cancer. Menendez called the overlap “too much to ask of any man.”

The 70-year-old New Jersey Democrat, who was forced to resign following his conviction this summer, is currently set to be sentenced on January 29, facing what could amount to a life sentence.

Meanwhile, Nadine, 57, is slated to go on trial in the same case starting January 21, just days before his sentencing.

Menendez’s attorney, Avi Weitzman, argued in a letter to the court that the timing of his sentencing during his wife’s trial risks “poisoning the proceedings against” her due to intensified media coverage.

The former senator has stated that he wishes to support Nadine, who is fighting breast cancer, through the duration of her trial.

“To ask him to face sentencing during the criminal trial of his wife, who is also in the midst of an ongoing battle against a life-threatening disease, is too much to ask of any man,” Weitzman wrote in his plea to the judge.

Nadine was initially scheduled to stand trial alongside her husband but received a postponement due to her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

Weitzman emphasized that Menendez wants to be present for her trial to provide “emotional and physical support,” noting the severe emotional toll the situation has taken on the family.

Federal prosecutors, however, have refused to agree to a full postponement, offering instead to move Menendez’s sentencing to a date before Nadine’s trial begins.

Weitzman argued that such a change would still generate media coverage potentially harmful to Nadine’s case, stating it could “taint the jury.”

Nadine’s attorney is also expected to file a request for a delay in Bob’s sentencing, according to Weitzman.

Bob Menendez was convicted in July of accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for leveraging his Senate position to benefit three businessmen and the governments of Egypt and Qatar.

The charges include accepting extravagant bribes such as 13 gold bars worth $150,000, cash, a luxury Mercedes-Benz, and a no-show job for Nadine. Some charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Nadine Menendez faces the same charges as her husband and has pleaded not guilty. Her trial is expected to continue through March.

Earlier this month, Bob Menendez lost his bid for a new trial, but he is likely to appeal his conviction and sentence after his sentencing.

This marks the second major corruption scandal for the former senator, who escaped conviction in 2017 after a mistrial in an unrelated case.

Once a fixture in New Jersey politics, Menendez was forced to resign in August after his conviction, leaving behind a legacy tarnished by allegations of corruption and ethical misconduct.
