Trump really knows how to get under the Democrats’ skin. It comes second nature to him.
And Donald Trump’s latest admin pick has the Left smashing the panic button.
President-elect Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has chosen Kash Patel to serve as the next FBI director, signaling his intent to cut short current Director Christopher Wray’s 10-year term.
In a Truth Social post, Trump hailed Patel, a loyal supporter and prominent figure within the MAGA movement, as a “brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter.”
“I am proud to announce that Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People. He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution,” Trump wrote.
Patel, who served in Trump’s first administration as chief of staff at the Department of Defense and as senior director for counterterrorism at the National Security Council, expressed his gratitude in a statement following the announcement.
“It is the honor of a lifetime to be nominated by President Trump to serve as Director of the FBI,” Patel said. “Together, we will restore integrity, accountability, and equal justice to our justice system and return the FBI to its rightful mission: protecting the American people.”
A History of Loyalty
Patel first gained Trump’s attention while working as an aide to former House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes during the investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Patel was credited with aiding efforts to counter the investigation, earning him a reputation as a staunch Trump ally.
Trump’s decision to tap Patel indicates his intent to overhaul the FBI. Patel has been an outspoken critic of what he calls the “deep state” within the Department of Justice, vowing sweeping reforms if confirmed.
In a recent interview on the Shawn Ryan Show, Patel stated, “I’d shut down the FBI Hoover building, on day one, and reopen it the next day as a museum of the deep state. And I’d take the 7,000 employees that work in that building and send ’em across America to chase down criminals. Go be cops. You’re cops, go be cops.”
Wray’s Contentious Tenure
Christopher Wray’s tenure as FBI director has been marked by controversy, drawing criticism from Trump and his allies in Congress. Notable points of tension include the FBI’s search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate for classified documents and its lack of progress in investigating pipe bombs found on Capitol Hill during the events of January 6, 2021.
Republicans have also accused the FBI under Wray of bias against Catholics. Among their concerns were allegations that the bureau improperly pressured social media companies to suppress stories critical of Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign. Documents from a House investigation revealed the FBI had warned platforms about potential Russian “hack-and-leak” operations, which led to the suppression of a story regarding Hunter Biden’s laptop.
While criticism of Wray has been widespread among Republicans, there have been moments of bipartisan acknowledgment of his leadership. Over the summer, Wray provided extensive details on the FBI’s investigation into an assassination attempt against Trump, earning praise even from frequent detractors.
The Road Ahead
Patel’s confirmation is expected to face significant resistance in the Senate, where his outspoken views and close ties to Trump are likely to fuel intense debate.
Nevertheless, his nomination emphasizes Trump’s commitment to reshaping the FBI into an institution aligned with his vision for “truth, accountability, and the Constitution.”
With Patel at the helm, the FBI could see its most dramatic changes in decades, setting the stage for a contentious and closely watched transition of power.
