Kamala Harris isn’t afraid to bend the truth when it comes to Trump. It’s the only way she can convince people to vote for her.
And the Harris campaign spewed this wicked lie involving Donald Trump and this unhinged RINO.
Media Frenzy: The Harris Campaign and Outlets Twist Trump’s Words Into Call for Execution
The Kamala Harris campaign, alongside media outlets like the Drudge Report, leapt on remarks by former President Donald Trump on Thursday night, suggesting he was calling for ex-GOP Rep. Liz Cheney’s “execution.” Trump’s description of Cheney as a “radical war hawk” during a conversation with Tucker Carlson led to a flurry of interpretations painting the Republican nominee as violent and extreme.
A Friday morning press release from the Harris campaign fueled the narrative: “In case you weren’t up past midnight eastern time,” it read, “Donald Trump sat down with Tucker Carlson in a late-night town hall where he suggested that Republican Liz Cheney should face a firing squad.”
The conversation took place at a Thursday event in Arizona where proceeds were raised to support those affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Trump, addressing Cheney’s hawkish stance, quipped, “She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.” The remark was part of a larger critique of political figures in Washington who, in his view, advocate war without consequence.
However, media outlets quickly ran with sensationalized headlines. The Drudge Report emblazoned a banner reading, “TRUMP CALLS FOR CHENEY’S EXECUTION,” and followed it with “WORLD IN SHOCK,” despite a lack of corroboration from global leaders.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough took the Drudge headline as gospel, urging his producers to display it throughout his morning segment. “Guys, if we can screenshot Drudge and put it up, that would be great,” Scarborough insisted, reiterating his disbelief.
Harris spokesman Ian Sams took the opportunity to highlight a stark contrast between Harris and Trump. “You have Donald Trump who is talking about sending a prominent Republican to the firing squad, and you have Vice President Harris talking about sending one to her cabinet. This is the difference in this race,” Sams said during his segment.
Many outlets parroted the Harris campaign’s framing. Rolling Stone’s headline read, “Trump Fantasizes About Putting Liz Cheney in Front of a Firing Squad.” The Daily Beast went even further with “Trump Fantasizes About Shooting Female Rival in the Face,” and the New York Daily News chimed in with “Trump threatens ex-Rep. Liz Cheney with execution by firing squad.” CNN’s Kasie Hunt followed suit, suggesting Trump was escalating his “violent rhetoric.”
Cheney, who endorsed Harris in September, joined the chorus of outrage on social media. “This is how dictators destroy free nations,” she tweeted, adding, “They threaten those who speak against them with death.” She used hashtags like #Womenwillnotbesilenced and #VoteKamala.
Yet, prominent figures on the political right, including former Republican presidential candidate Joe Walsh, pushed back on this interpretation. “Trump did NOT call for Liz Cheney to be executed,” Walsh stated, calling the narrative “deceptive.”
Walsh, an open Harris supporter, noted that Trump’s comment was intended to criticize Cheney’s foreign policy stance, not to suggest her literal execution. “He’s an utterly horrible human being who’s utterly unfit for office,” Walsh admitted, “but the truth should always matter. And the truth is that Trump is not calling for Liz Cheney to be executed.”
Other political voices echoed this view. Vox writer Zack Beauchamp explained, “Folks, Trump didn’t threaten to execute Liz Cheney. He actually was calling her a chickenhawk, something liberals said about her for ages.” Beauchamp pointed out that the context involved Trump’s disdain for Cheney’s approach to war, not a threat.
Interestingly, some of Harris’s current allies, like Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have criticized Cheney’s hawkish record themselves. In 2019, Sanders tweeted, “Taking national security advice from a Cheney has already caused irreparable damage to our country,” while Ocasio-Cortez posted a skeptical GIF, referencing the impact of Cheney’s policies on younger generations.
On Friday, the Trump campaign released a statement to address the coverage, calling it disgraceful.
“President Donald Trump explained Thursday night that warmongers like Liz Cheney are very quick to start wars and send other Americans to fight them with no regard for the lives lost,” the statement read.
“Are these reporters malicious or dumb? President Trump was clearly describing a combat zone,” it argued, stating that Cheney and Harris would deepen the U.S. into war.
For now, Trump maintains a slight edge over Harris in national polls, according to RealClearPolitics. However, the public perception and media framing of such incendiary exchanges could play a decisive role as Election Day nears.
