The president has been taking a lot of heat. But now he’s starting to tack on some wins.
Because Homeland Security made a bombshell announcement that vindicated Donald Trump.
Trump Administration’s First-Year Crackdown Nets 7,000 Illegal Immigrant Gang Members
In the opening year of President Trump’s second term, federal authorities have arrested 7,000 illegal immigrant gang members, many convicted of serious violent crimes such as murder, kidnapping, assault, and robbery.
The sweeping operation, led by ICE under DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, represents a sharp departure from prior policies that critics say allowed dangerous individuals to remain in the country after illegal entry. Officials describe the effort as a direct fulfillment of Trump’s pledge to prioritize public safety by removing the most violent offenders first.
“When we say we are targeting the worst of the worst, this is what exactly we mean,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.
“Many of these were let in by Joe Biden and should have never been in this country. These vicious criminals murdered, assaulted, robbed, and terrorized innocent Americans for sport. But under President Trump’s and Secretary [Kristi] Noem’s leadership, ICE is turbocharged to arrest even more gang members and make America safe again.”
Nationwide Raids Target Major Criminal Networks
The arrests span multiple states and involve members of notorious transnational and domestic gangs, including MS-13, Tren de Aragua, Latin Kings, Trinitarios, Mexican Mafia, Nortenos, Asian Boys, Crips, and Bloods.
ICE reports that many of those apprehended had entered the U.S. illegally during previous years and were later released into communities, only to commit or continue committing grave offenses.
DHS highlights that the removals include individuals previously convicted of homicide, armed carjacking, heroin smuggling, aggravated assault, and other felonies.
The scale of the effort reflects intensified coordination between federal agencies and a renewed focus on enforcement priorities established early in Trump’s current term.
Surge in Attacks on Agents Highlights Ongoing Challenges
ICE personnel have reported a more than 1,300 percent increase in assaults since the start of the administration, which officials attribute in part to heightened rhetoric and protests that have targeted agents at hotels, workplaces, and other locations.
Despite the elevated risks, the department continues to carry out operations aimed at dismantling gang networks and protecting communities.
The first-year tally is presented as tangible evidence of restored border security and a commitment to reducing criminal threats posed by illegal immigration, with plans to build on these results moving forward.
