Major resignation rocks Capitol Hill to its core

Rarely do politicians leave office willingly. But it’s bound to ruffle some feathers.

And now a major resignation rocked Capitol Hill to its core.

Greene’s Dramatic Exit from Congress

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene revealed late Friday that she’s stepping down from her congressional role, just days after former President Donald Trump revoked his support for the vocal legislator.

In an extensive post on X, she expressed deep frustration with the inner workings of D.C., slamming a rigged “Political Industrial Complex” that treats citizens like mere tools in a perpetual cycle of polarization.

“Americans are used by the Political Industrial Complex of both political parties, election cycle after election cycle, in order to elect whichever side can convince Americans to hate the other side more,” Greene wrote. “And the results are always the same — nothing ever gets better for the common American man or woman.”

She admitted feeling like an outsider in the capital and is departing to champion everyday Americans through alternative means.

Frustrations with Party Leadership and Stalled Initiatives

“I believe in term limits and do not think Congress should be a lifelong career or an assisted living facility,” Greene wrote. “My only goal and desire has ever been to hold the Republican Party accountable for the promises it makes to the American people and put America First, and I have fought against Democrat’s damaging policies like the Green New Deal, wide open deadly unsafe border policies, and the trans agenda on children and against women.”

She lambasted Republican bosses for operating in a passive “safe campaign re-election mode” rather than pushing forward bold governance.

Greene claimed her proposals—such as designating English as the nation’s official tongue, outlawing gender-affirming treatments for kids, and scrapping H-1B visas that she argues undercut U.S. workers—were routinely overlooked.

“My bills … just sit collecting dust,” she said. “That’s how it is for most members of Congress’s bills, the Speaker never brings them to the floor for a vote.”

Trump’s Rebuke and Path Forward

The move follows intense backlash from Trump’s choice last week to yank his backing, labeling Greene as “Wacky” and “a ranting lunatic.”

Once a staunch ally of the former president, Greene described the split as painful but affirmed her resilience rooted in personal beliefs.

“My heart remains filled with joy, my life is filled with happiness, and my true convictions remain unchanged because my self worth is not defined by a man, but instead by God who created everything in existence,” she wrote.

“I will be resigning from office with my last day being January 5, 2026,” she wrote. “I’m going back to the people I love.”

Her departure will spark a special election in Georgia’s solidly Republican 14th district, per the Cook Political Report’s assessment.
