This announcement is overdue. But it’s a crucial one.
And the Pentagon made an announcement that will have Americans applauding.
President Donald Trump has given the final go-ahead for the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army major who opened fire on fellow service members at Fort Hood in 2009.
The convicted terrorist will face a U.S. Army firing squad.
The Pentagon made the announcement Monday night, confirming that the long-delayed sentence is moving forward under the new administration.
“Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan,” stated Sean Parnell, a spokesman for the Pentagon.
This decision ends years of stalling that left the families of the m*rdered soldiers waiting for real accountability.
Thirteen people died that day in November 2009, and dozens more were wounded when Hasan turned his weapon on his own comrades while shouting Islamic slogans.
Pete Hegseth has been clear about where he stands.
“I am 100% committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan,” he stated.
“The victims and survivors deserve justice without delays.”
On Monday he posted a single word that captured the mood of millions of Americans who have waited far too long: “Justice.”
The Pentagon summed up the moment as well.
“Judgment day for Hasan has finally come,” the department said.
