Washington, D.C. is being gutted. The establishment is in a war against Trump’s admin.
That’s why a U.S. House Representative went on CNN and made an eyebrow-raising claim about President Trump.
Democratic Representative Katherine Clark Defends Party’s Pitiful Efforts Against Trump, Musk
On Monday, Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Katherine Clark appeared on CNN to argue that her party has been “successful” in holding President Donald Trump and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk accountable. During her conversation with CNN host Sara Sidner, Clark responded to criticism from within her party about insufficient opposition to the Trump administration. A recent CNN/SSRS poll revealed that 73% of Democrat voters feel congressional leaders are doing “too little” to oppose the president. In contrast, only 22% believe that their party’s response is appropriate.
Sidner pointed out the growing frustration within the Democratic base, asking, “Seventy-three percent of Democrats, or Democratic leaders, believe their party is not doing enough. Since Democrats do not control the House or the Senate, what is your plan to try and give Donald Trump some checks and balances?”
In response, Clark acknowledged the deep frustration felt by many Americans as they watch both the Trump administration and Musk’s increasing influence. “First, let me tell you, you got to understand how frustrated people are watching what is happening with this administration and with the unvetted, unelected, richest man in the world [Elon Musk] running roughshod across our personal data and making — threatening the basic services that they provide,” she said. “We understand that we are the minority party in the House and the Senate and they have the White House. And what we have seen is cowardice from House Republicans who won’t stand up for their constituents because they don’t want to step out of line.”
Clark framed the party’s strategy as a defense against what she described as “illegal and unconstitutional acts,” asserting that Democrats are holding Trump and Musk accountable by utilizing the court system. “We are calling out the illegal and unconstitutional acts that we are seeing in the courts. That’s our first line of defense,” she continued, noting that over 78 legal cases have already been filed with favorable results for her party.
The congresswoman further detailed the efforts of Democrats to rally a few Republicans in the House to stand against Trump’s agenda, describing them as key to shifting the balance of power. “We are asking and putting pressure on 3 Republicans. That’s all it takes to have the courage to stand up for the people who sent them to Washington and say no to this. Say no to stealing their hard-earned tax dollars that we all once spent efficiently and handing it over to the billionaire class in this country,” Clark said.
Despite her criticism of Republicans, Clark’s remarks came amid polling data showing substantial support among Republican voters for Musk’s initiatives. An Associated Press/NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll, conducted on January 24, revealed that 58% of Republicans back the efforts of Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Additionally, the CNN/SSRS poll indicated that 64% of Republican and Republican-leaning independent voters are satisfied with their party’s support of Trump.
In recent months, some Democrats have expressed their discontent with Trump and Musk’s actions through aggressive rhetoric and numerous legal challenges. A key point of contention has been Musk’s DOGE initiative, which aims to reduce government waste. DOGE has made significant cuts, including mass layoffs and the dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which Musk’s agency claimed was responsible for squandering billions on left-wing causes, such as funding s*x change operations in Guatemala. On February 17, DOGE reported that it had saved $55 billion in federal spending.
Despite these efforts, Democrats have been largely unsuccessful in blocking DOGE’s agenda. On February 18, fourteen Democratic attorneys general filed a lawsuit to temporarily halt DOGE, but U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied the request. The judge ruled that there was insufficient evidence that the agency’s actions were causing “imminent, irreparable harm” to the plaintiffs.
With the legal battles only just beginning, President Trump’s approval rating continues to rise. According to a CBS News/YouGov poll conducted in early February, Trump’s approval reached 53%, marking the highest point across both of his terms. The same poll found that 70% of Americans believed Trump was fulfilling his campaign promises, further solidifying his political standing.
While Democrats face internal and external challenges in their efforts to curb the influence of Trump and Musk, Clark’s comments underscore the party’s continued determination to use legal avenues and bipartisan pressure in pursuit of their agenda. However, with significant backing from Republican voters for Musk’s efficiency measures and growing support for Trump’s policies, the Democrats are clearly not in as good of a position as Rep. Clark likes to claim.
Recently conducted surveys suggest that the vast majority of Americans believe that there is far more fraud to discover in the federal government than has already been dug up by the Trump administration’s efforts. Despite this, Democrats are showing their hand that they are in stark disagreement with the American public.
