The GOP was hoping this wouldn’t happen. But they likely could’ve seen it coming.
And a Democrat senator made an announcement that will have Republicans groaning.
Democrat Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania just made it crystal clear where he stands. The Democrat lawmaker has zero plans to walk away from his party, no matter how much chatter swirls online or in political circles about a possible switch.
In a sit-down with the New York Times, the senator laid out his position without any hedging.
Fetterman votes “90-something percent with Democrats,” and that track record is not changing anytime soon.
The senator took aim at the most extreme voices inside his own party. He called out those leftists who “want to abolish the border, abolish prison, abolish the presidency,” along with the Senate itself.
According to Fetterman, that agenda amounts to backing “full-on communism.”
Those are strong words coming from a sitting Democrat. Yet Fetterman showed no interest in packing up and joining the other side.
“Never,” the senator said to the Times.
“I’m not being cute. I vote 90-something percent with Democrats.”
A Democrat senator can recognize that parts of his party have drifted into radical territory on immigration, law enforcement, and even the structure of the federal government.
He can label those ideas as communist in plain language. And still, he remains firmly planted inside the Democrat tent.
Fetterman’s loyalty matters because it shows how the party holds its members even when they break ranks on high-profile issues.
Pennsylvania voters sent him to Washington as a Democrat, and he intends to keep operating under that banner.
