Biden needs all the help he can get if he wants to win a second term in 2024. But that’s easier said than done with members on the Left starting to turn their backs on him.
And Joe Biden is on edge after a Democrat ally exposes him in this damaging way.
The crisis at the southern border has reached catastrophic levels.
A mass influx of illegal aliens have made their way into the United States during President Biden’s first term.
And he and his appointed Border Czar, Vice President Kamala Harris, have done little to nothing to stop the crisis.
Republicans of course are furious with the lack of action at the border, and even some Democrats have come forth in recent weeks to criticize the current administration’s handling of it.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) expressed his willingness to find a solution to secure the border better, leading to shock among some members in his party.
Now, another Democrat lawmaker in Congress has come forth to put Biden on blast for the southern border crisis.
While appearing in an interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) told Asma Khalid, NPR’s White House Correspondent, that “what’s happening now is disgraceful,” when it comes to current immigration policies being enforced at the border.
“We need to raise the credible fear standard at the border, we need to have expedited hearings and we need to have expedited removals and we need to enforce American immigration laws in a humane way,” Gonzalez said.
“I am curious, if you look back broadly on the last three years, how would you grade his handling of border and immigration policies?” Khalid asked the congressman of President Biden.
“I would give him a C-minus. Passing, yeah. There’s order, to some extent, and it’s dealt with humanely, but, simply said, we need to enforce our laws. We need to scrutinize asylum seekers further,” Gonzalez responded.
“We have extremes on both sides. We have folks who think it should be really easy to come to our souther border and ask for asylum and get into the country, and then you have folks who feel the way I do, that think that we should be much stricter on our souther border.”
“But clearly, what’s happening now is disgraceful. And to have a policy that invites hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people to come into our southern border, I don’t care how you look at it, it’s just wrong.”
Frankly, Rep. Gonzalez was being a bit too generous with Biden when grading him on his handling of the border crisis.
Most Americans would give the president a failing grade of an “F.”
But regardless, Gonzalez’s grade was still harsh considering it came from a Democrat.
And with Republicans looking to attack Biden for his failed border policies this election cycle, that strategy will only get easier for them with Democrats doing the same.
Joe Biden needs to figure out how to make some changes at the border, or else he’s in real trouble come November of 2024.
