Usually, October is the month for election surprises. But not this election cycle.
Because the 2024 election was hit with a shocking turn of events after what this Democrat just announced.
Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has finally made his presidential announcement.
He will not be running for president in the 2024 election as a third-party candidate.
There were growing rumors that he would throw his hat into the ring after announcing last November that he would not run for reelection for his senate seat in 2024.
Manchin is a moderate Democrat who hopes to bring unity to Americans who align themselves in the middle between the Left and the Right.
The senator made this announcement while speaking in Morgantown, West Virginia last Friday.
“I will not be seeking a third-party run,” Manchin said, according to the New York Times.
“I will not be involved in a presidential run.”
For Democrats, Manchin’s decision will bring them a sigh of relief.
They were worried that if he ran as a third-party candidate, he would take votes away from President Joe Biden in the general election, and allow likely Republican nominee Donald Trump to win the race.
“I think it would be very, very unfortunate if Joe Manchin decided to do that,” Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) said last year of a possible Manchin presidential campaign.
“He knows that if he were to step in [to the race] that it would make it much more likely Donald Trump would be president again, and I know Joe Manchin doesn’t want that.”
Not too long ago, Sen. Manchin discussed the possibility of picking Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) as a running mate if he ended up choosing to run for president.
“Hypothetically, if I was picking my running mate, really who I would ask right now is Mitt Romney,” Manchin said.
But now that potential ticket has been put to rest for good.
And even though the Left will be happy to know that the West Virginia senator won’t be playing spoiler for Biden’s campaign, they still have to worry about Biden possibly losing to Donald Trump in November.
A recent poll from the Economist/YouGov shows Trump beating Biden by 24 points among independent voters.
That’s a statistic that should be very worrisome for Democrats.
