Kamala Harris To Ramp Up Biden Administration’s Harmful Child Gender Transition Agenda
Following President Joe Biden’s unexpected exit from the presidential race last Sunday, gender ideology activists and LGBTQ+ groups have swiftly thrown their support behind Vice President Kamala Harris.
These groups are hopeful that Harris, if elected, will build on the Biden administration’s agenda regarding child gender transitions.
Numerous activist organizations have endorsed Harris, citing her progressive track record, particularly her tenure as a prosecutor in San Francisco, a city known for its strong LGBTQ+ community.
“A Harris Administration would not only uphold but also expand upon the protections for transgender Americans established by the Biden Administration,” Advocates for Trans Equality declared in their endorsement. “Her leadership promises to fortify and enhance the efforts to address and meet the needs of transgender people, ensuring continued progress in our nation’s history of civil rights.”
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the largest LGBTQ+ advocacy group in the United States, also backed Harris, emphasizing her potential as a reliable advocate for their causes.
The current administration has been a leading national proponent of gender transition procedures and medications for minors, despite limited evidence supporting their efficacy and growing concerns about potential harm.
“The intersection on the issue of reproductive care and trans care, and the ability of families to be able to have care for their children and their families, is really, again, an intersection around attacks that are on an identity,” Harris told the Advocate in 2023, highlighting the “significant overlap” between gender transitions and abortion rights.
However, the White House recently faced backlash from transgender activists when a spokesperson told The 19th that the Biden administration opposes gender transition surgeries for children.
“We continue to fight state and national bans on gender-affirming care, which represents a continuum of care, and respect the role of parents, families, and doctors — not politicians — in these decisions. Gender-affirming surgeries are typically reserved for adults, and we believe they should be,” said Neera Tanden, White House Domestic Policy Council director.
Following criticism from the HRC, the administration clarified its position, affirming support for invasive surgeries for minors and committing to oppose laws that ban such procedures, despite the lack of substantial medical evidence.
On “Transgender Day of Visibility,” Harris and the White House consistently share messages of support for gender transitions. In 2022, Harris, her husband Douglas Emhoff, and Admiral Rachel Levine, a transgender woman serving as Assistant Secretary for Health, hosted transgender children at the White House, promising to support medical interventions.
“Deeply impactful to speak to some amazing trans kids at the White House. Gender affirming care is the medical standard and allows these kids to be themselves and live a normal life,” Levine posted on social media. “To all trans kids: we see and support you. We have your back.”
That same year, the Biden administration issued a proclamation emphasizing their commitment to supporting transgender youth and condemning efforts to restrict so-called supportive medical care and discussions about LGBTQ+ individuals in schools.
Harris has faced criticism for her past actions as California’s attorney general, including denying a gender transition surgery for a biological male inmate. At the time, she argued that the inmate had been receiving adequate hormone therapy and other treatments. However, during the 2019 presidential primary, Harris apologized, explaining that as attorney general, she was obligated to defend her clients’ positions, even when they conflicted with her personal beliefs.
Additionally, as attorney general, Harris chose not to enforce Proposition 8, a ballot initiative that banned gay marriage, which had passed with over 52% of the vote.
As the nation prepares for the upcoming election, Harris’s radical stance on gender ideology and child gender transitions will undoubtedly be a focal point for her critics to attack her on.
