Bush has been away from politics for years now. But the spotlight has found him once again.
And Republicans are stunned as George W. Bush gets involved in the 2024 presidential race in this major way.
Over the weekend, Barbara Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush, joined Vice President Kamala Harris on the campaign trail in Pennsylvania.
The event marked a notable moment in the lead-up to the 2024 election, as Barbara Bush publicly backed Harris despite her own family’s lack of endorsement thus far.
Neither George W. Bush nor his wife, Laura, has expressed any preference for the upcoming election. Yet, with Election Day quickly approaching, Barbara Bush has made her stance clear.
“It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend,” Barbara Bush shared with People. “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
In 2010, Barbara Bush mentioned that she didn’t affiliate with either the Democratic or Republican parties, a stance that reflects her more independent political leanings. During the Trump presidency, she continued to support causes aligning with her beliefs, even speaking at a Planned Parenthood rally in 2017.
“I am proud to stand with Planned Parenthood not only because women, regardless of where they are from, deserve to live dignified, healthy lives [but] … because it’s a really good investment,” she said at the event, The Texas Tribune reports.
She emphasized her belief in Planned Parenthood’s impact on public health, saying, “We know that when women are healthy, their families and their children are healthier, too.” Apparently she forgot about the fact that Planned Parenthood does more to end lives through abortion than they do to help make people healthier.
While George W. Bush, known for his “culture of life” policies, opposed abortion, his wife, Laura Bush, publicly supported gay marriage and abortion rights, stating that abortion should “remain legal because I think it’s important for people for medical reasons and other reasons.”
Notably, George W. Bush has avoided endorsing former President Donald Trump and has reportedly never voted for him.
In 2016, he opted to vote for “None of the Above” for president, and in 2020, he cast his vote for Condoleezza Rice, his former secretary of state.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Dick Cheney, who served alongside George W. Bush, has announced he will support Harris in the upcoming election.
His daughter, former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, has also been actively campaigning on Harris’s behalf, adding further significance to the unexpected political alliances forming around the 2024 election.
The Left Allegedly Erases Hatred For Former GOP Foes
It wasn’t long ago when Democrats couldn’t stand the Bush family or the Cheneys.
But now that some of them are on their side this election cycle, they can’t get enough of them.
For many on the Left, former Vice President Dick Cheney was considered a warmonger. But now he and his daughter are deemed a hero because of their support of Kamala Harris.
It’s odd how quickly the tide changed on that front. And while only George W. Bush’s daughter has endorsed Harris while he’s stayed silent, you can expect the Left to praise the former GOP president if he decides to support the Harris/Walz ticket.
Again, in the not so distant past, George W. Bush was severely hated by Democrats. But they’re clearly willing to change their tune in order to help drag a failing candidate like Kamala Harris over the finish line.
