In the final weeks of President Joe Biden’s first term, reports indicate his administration is quietly selling off unused southern border wall materials, raising eyebrows among lawmakers.
Critics see this as a calculated effort to hinder President-elect Donald Trump’s renewed push to secure the U.S.-Mexico border.
Video footage shared by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent shows flatbed trucks removing dismantled steel wall sections near Tucson, Arizona—a known hotspot for illegal crossings.
The agent, who spoke anonymously, revealed to The Daily Wire that approximately half a mile of border wall materials is being hauled away daily.
“They are taking it from three sections: Nogales, Tucson, and Three Points,” the agent said. “The goal is to move all of it off the border before Christmas.”
The removed materials are being transported to Pinal Airpark in Marana, Arizona, where they are auctioned through GovPlanet, a site specializing in military surplus. Starting bids for these components, labeled as Steel Bollard Wall Sections w/Grout, are as low as $5. Auctions have already taken place this month, with another scheduled for December 18.
These materials, left unused after Biden halted wall construction in 2021, have become a symbol of the administration’s immigration policies.
The rollback of Trump-era border security measures coincided with a dramatic increase in illegal crossings and unaccompanied minors at the southern border.
Republicans estimate that $300 million worth of taxpayer-funded border wall components have since been left to deteriorate.
Critics argue the ongoing sales will obstruct Trump’s plans to revive border wall construction. “The Biden Administration is well aware they shouldn’t have reversed the construction of the border wall,” Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) said to The Daily Wire.
“If it’s true they’re purposefully hamstringing an incoming president, it wouldn’t be shocking. Why would they want to see President Trump succeed with policies they aggressively sabotaged?”
Trump has vowed to make border security his top priority upon returning to office. His plans include resuming construction of the wall and initiating a mass deportation campaign focusing on those convicted of crimes.
This aligns with promises he made during his 2016 campaign, when he pledged to build “an impenetrable, physical, tall, power, beautiful southern border wall.”
During Trump’s presidency, $15 billion was spent constructing 450 miles of barriers, with 250 miles still in progress at the end of his term. However, Biden’s decision to cease construction has led to the current dismantling and sale of leftover materials.
A border patrol agent expressed concerns about the challenges Trump may face in pursuing his border security agenda.
“When Trump comes back, and he wants to start the border wall all over again, the whole entire funding fight is gonna happen again,” the agent told The Daily Wire. “That’s their play. He’s gonna have to fight for this — again.”
As the debate continues, the Biden administration’s actions have proven once again that they couldn’t care less about securing America’s borders.
