Pelosi is usually one to play ball with her fellow Democrats. But not this time.
As Nancy Pelosi has declared war against this radical Leftist in a disturbing move.
Pelosi Reportedly Working Behind the Scenes to Block AOC’s Bid for Oversight Committee Leadership
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reportedly making a quiet but determined push to prevent Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) from becoming the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
Pelosi, 84, is said to favor Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) for the prominent ranking member role and has been “actively working to tank” Ocasio-Cortez’s chances, according to a report from Punchbowl News.
The former Speaker has been “making calls” to rally Democratic support for Connolly, 74, over Ocasio-Cortez, 35, the outlet revealed Thursday.
While Pelosi has publicly endorsed Connolly’s bid, the extent of her behind-the-scenes lobbying effort had not been previously reported.
Connolly and Ocasio-Cortez are locked in a closely watched intra-party contest to replace Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) as the ranking member of the Oversight Committee. The panel plays a critical role in holding the incoming Trump administration accountable.
The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee is set to meet next week to recommend a candidate for the ranking member position, with the full Democratic caucus expected to vote on the decision shortly afterward.
Reports indicate that Ocasio-Cortez has garnered support from a majority of Democrats on the Oversight Committee.
Additionally, she has found an unexpected ally in House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).
“I’m a big AOC fan,” Comer said in an interview with CNN on Thursday. “Obviously, I don’t agree with very much of her policy, but I think she’s a good person, I think she’s very well-spoken.”

The Republican chairman, who had a strained relationship with Raskin during his tenure, expressed optimism about working with Ocasio-Cortez should she secure the role. He noted that he expects to have a “good working relationship with her.”
Comer also offered a swipe at Raskin’s leadership, saying, “The Democrats have nowhere to go but up after having Jamie Raskin for the last four years.”
However, he added that both Ocasio-Cortez and Connolly would be strong choices for the position.
The high-stakes race for the ranking member role highlights the ongoing power struggles within the Democratic Party, as seasoned leaders like Pelosi work to shape the future direction of the caucus.
Meanwhile younger more radical Leftists like Ocasio-Cortez vie for greater influence. They feel as though the Democrat Party can go further Left than it already has.
But some old guard Democrats, like Nancy Pelosi, aren’t fully on board with that idea, especially after the party’s shift further to the Left played a role in their resounding defeats in the 2024 elections.
