The US Attorney General has plenty of responsibility and power. Now here ire is aimed directly at Democrats.
And Pam Bondi just went scorched earth on this Democrat Senator.
Bondi Defends Integrity in Clash with Blumenthal
During a Capitol Hill hearing on Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi confronted Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., over his past misstatements about military service, as he questioned her involvement in a corporate merger case.
Bondi, drawing on a 2010 investigation that found Blumenthal had implied Vietnam veteran status despite receiving deferments and serving in the Marine Reserve stateside without deployment, directly addressed the senator’s credibility.
The exchange highlighted Bondi’s emphasis on ethical standards, as she rebuffed suggestions of impropriety in her handling of Justice Department matters. Blumenthal initiated the line of inquiry regarding a merger involving American Express GBT and Ballard Partners, where Bondi had previously worked.
Exchange Centers on Merger and Past Scandal
Blumenthal opened the discussion, stating, “In the merger that took place involving American Express GBT [Global Business Travel], I understand that Brian Ballard, longtime backer and head of the law firm where you worked, was instrumental in lobbying the Justice Department to drop that lawsuit.”
He added, “It was dismissed, so it’s not subject to a court review. What conversations did you have with Mr. Ballard?”
Bondi responded firmly: “Sen. Blumenthal, I cannot believe that you would accuse me of impropriety when you lied about your military service. You lied, you admitted you lied to be elected a U.S. Senator.”
As Blumenthal interjected, “I am not asking you — I am not accusing you of impropriety — I am —,” Bondi pressed on: “Don’t you ever challenge my integrity. I have abided by every ethics standard. Do not question my ability to be fair and impartial as Attorney General.”
Blumenthal concluded the moment by saying, “You’ll answer that question for another of my colleagues.”
Broader Hearing Touches on Trump Discussions
The hearing featured additional back-and-forth, including Blumenthal’s questions about a dinner between Bondi and President Donald Trump.
Bondi declined to elaborate, noting, “Senator, I am not going to discuss any conversations I have or have not had with the President of the United States. You’re an attorney, you have a law degree, and you know that I am not going to do that.”
She then referenced Blumenthal’s own prior statements, reading from a document: “‘I will keep fighting to ensure that law enforcement and the judicial process move forward without political interference. No one is above the law, not even the president.’ That’s a quote from you, Senator Blumenthal.”
The session underscored Bondi’s commitment to independence in her role, amid ongoing scrutiny of federal operations.
