Wajahat Ali Draws Bipartisan Backlash for Remarks on Immigration and “Breeding” Demographics
Daily Beast columnist and podcast host Wajahat Ali triggered widespread condemnation Friday after declaring on his Substack livestream that President Trump’s effort to curb “third world migration” is doomed because “brown people… we breed. We’re a breeding people,” and that the 1965 Immigration Act irreversibly altered America’s future.
Ali told viewers that white Americans “have lost” because “you let us in in the first place,” citing large populations in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, and asserting that immigrant communities bring superior food, music, and culture while mainstream American culture “sucks.”
Critics from both parties labeled the comments racially charged and divisive, with some accusing Ali of celebrating demographic replacement and others calling the rhetoric inflammatory and counterproductive to civil discourse.

Context: Trump’s Migration Pause Follows D.C. Shooting by Biden-Era Evacuee
The remarks came in direct response to Trump’s announcement of a permanent halt to migration from high-risk countries after the Nov. 26 shooting of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C.
The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, and another Afghan national recently arrested in Texas for alleged bomb threats both entered the United States under the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome program.
Immigration Enforcement Faces Escalating Violence
The exchange unfolded amid a surge in attacks on federal immigration facilities and personnel.
In recent months, ICE offices in Illinois, Oregon, and Texas have been targeted with gunfire, vehicle rammings, and organized protests that turned violent, including assaults on journalists and attempts to disrupt federal aircraft with lasers.
The Department of Homeland Security reports a sharp increase in threats against immigration officers since the Trump administration intensified enforcement operations.
