Leading Democrat calls for fellow party member’s expulsion from Congress on live TV

Rep. Eric Swalwell

Things are getting chaotic within the Democrat Party. Leftists are turning on each other.

And a leading Democrat called for a fellow party member’s expulsion from Congress on live TV.

In a rare moment of candor on national television, Representative Pramila Jayapal of Washington state publicly threw her Democratic colleague Eric Swalwell under the bus.

Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” this past Sunday, Jayapal made it crystal clear where she stands on the embattled California lawmaker facing s*xual assault accusations from a former aide.

The allegations have rocked Swalwell’s political ambitions, especially as he eyes a run for governor of California, with top Democrats including House Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senator Adam Schiff, and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging him to quit the race.

When host Kristen Welker asked Jayapal if she agreed that Swalwell should step aside from his campaign, the progressive firebrand left no doubt.

“I absolutely do. This is, as you know, I’ve been very vocal on behalf of survivors of the Epstein scandal. And I think that what we are seeing now is an emergence of women across the country who have been dismissed, told to shut up, told to move on, who have been abused by men in powerful positions,” she said.

“This is not a partisan issue. This cuts across party lines. And it is depravity of the way that women have been treated. And I’m just inspired by the courage and the bravery of the women who came forward.”

“This is clearly a pattern. I’ve already called for Congressman Swalwell to drop out of the gubernatorial race, and I think we have to hold everybody accountable.”

Jayapal’s strong words come as no surprise to those who have followed her advocacy for victims of powerful abusers, as she pointed to a disturbing pattern of misconduct by men in high places that demands swift action.

Welker pressed further, referencing Republican Congressman Byron Donalds’ pledge to vote for Swalwell’s expulsion from the House.

The question was blunt: Would Jayapal do the same?

Her reply pulled no punches and extended the call to another Democrat as well.

“And Congressman Gonzalez? I’ve already said that. I think that these things, these charges and allegations and the pattern of abuse. And in Congressman Gonzalez’s case, he actually admitted to the affair with the or to the harassment with his staffer,” the congresswoman said.

“This is also important for staffers across the Capitol to see that their bosses don’t get to do this to them. So I do think that both of them need to step down from Congress.”

By demanding that both Swalwell and Gonzalez resign their seats, Jayapal is sending a message that the days of unchecked power in Congress might be numbered.
