Donald Trump will always have enemies who are out to get him. But this latest assault came with extra rage attached to it.

And the White House is up in arms after Trump was blasted by this heinous attack.

CPB Enraged Due To Trump’s Push to Defund NPR and PBS

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has sharply rebuffed President Donald Trump’s recent executive order aimed at slashing taxpayer support for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).

In a statement, the CPB emphasized its independence from White House control, asserting that the president’s directive oversteps his authority.

“CPB is not a federal executive agency subject to the President’s authority,” said Patricia Harrison, the corporation’s president, in a statement released Friday. “Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government.”

Harrison pointed to the legal framework that shields the CPB from federal interference, citing a specific statute: “In creating CPB, Congress expressly forbade ‘any department, agency, officer, or employee of the United States to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over educational television or radio broadcasting, or over [CPB] or any of its grantees or contractors…’ 47 U.S.C. § 398(c).”

The controversy stems from an executive order Trump signed late Thursday, targeting public subsidies for NPR and PBS. The White House accused the broadcasters of being biased, claiming in a social media post that they “receive millions from taxpayers to spread radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news’.”

Trump’s order directs the CPB to halt direct funding to both outlets and to block indirect support through other recipients of CPB funds, such as local public radio and television stations. The directive sets a deadline of June 30 for the CPB to comply.

Trump has long criticized NPR and PBS, arguing that government-backed media is outdated. “Government funding of news media in this environment is not only outdated and unnecessary but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence,” he stated in the executive order.

He further instructed the CPB Board to “cease direct funding to NPR and PBS” and “cancel existing direct funding to the maximum extent allowed by law.”

The CPB, established by Congress in 1967 to support over 1,500 local public radio and television stations, is no stranger to political pressure. It currently faces a $535 million allocation from Congress for fiscal years 2025 and 2026.

However, according to the New York Post, Trump’s administration has also proposed a separate “recissions” plan, drafted by White House budget director Russ Vought, to retract $1.1 billion in CPB funding. If submitted to Congress, this plan would require only a simple majority to pass within a 45-day window.

Tensions between the CPB and the White House escalated further when Trump attempted to remove three of the CPB’s five board members, prompting the corporation to file a lawsuit against the administration on Monday.

It remains unclear whether the CPB will pursue additional legal action in response to the latest executive order.

While NPR and PBS rely on CPB funding for a portion of their budgets, both organizations draw significant revenue from other sources, including foundation grants, advertising, and public donations.

This diverse financial base suggests that neither outlet would face immediate closure if federal support were cut.

But for now, the Trump administration stands firm in their belief that taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be used to fund media organizations that spew Leftist propaganda.
