Former President Donald Trump has the lead in virtually every primary poll. But this politician thinks a change is coming.
And a Republican governor makes an unexpected prediction about the 2024 GOP Primary.
The race is on for the Republican nomination for president.
Donald Trump is far ahead in the lead, sitting at 61.3% according to a recent GOP primary national poll average from FiveThirtyEight.
Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is in a distant second at 11.4%, while Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sits at 11.3%
But with the New Hampshire Republican Primary just weeks away, Governor Chris Sununu (R-NH) doesn’t think Trump’s lead will stand once the votes start coming in.
While making an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Sununu explained that more Republican voters are going to pull the lever for Haley in an effort to defeat Trump.
He detailed that Republican candidate Chris Christie will lose his voters to Haley, so that she can win the Granite State and therefore be one step closer in winning the party’s nomination.
“Look, Chris Christie is a friend, but his race is at a complete dead end. He knows his voters who want to see Trump defeated are all coming over to Nikki Haley,” Sununu said.
“The only person who wants Chris Christie to stay in the race is Donald Trump. Think about the irony of that. The fact that Chris is out there trying to attack her and make waves – that’s not surprising.”
Christie is polling at an abysmal 3.7% according to FiveThirtyEight.
He’s received numerous calls to drop out, but has remained stubborn in his efforts to continue on in the race despite poor polling numbers.
“But at the end of the day, this is a two-person race, and people are not moving on from that issue. They’re engaging with Nikki on where America goes,” the New Hampshire governor continued.
“Chris is only talking about Trump. That’s it. He’s kind of a one-man show.”
“And I know he says he wants to stay in the race to speak the truth about Trump, but that translating to votes in a primary is a very different thing, and he’s hit a ceiling. At this point, he won’t get any delegates in the state of New Hampshire.”
Sununu then told viewers that former President Trump is “in trouble,” which will pave the way for Haley to bring Republicans together.
“If Chris is true to his message about defeating Trump, he’ll understand that the voters are coming,” the governor said.
“I think he’s going to make the right decision eventually, and I’m sure that this is a two-person race, where if Trump can’t get 50% of the vote, which he cannot in New Hampshire, he’s in trouble, and finally we can start moving forward as a party bringing everyone together.”
It’s hard to imagine Trump not carrying the state of New Hampshire based on numerous polls that show him with a large lead. But stranger things have happened before in these primary elections.
