The former president is gearing up for the presidential election this fall. He has every intention of defeating President Joe Biden for a second term in the White House.
And a meeting between this governor and Donald Trump could have massive consequences on the 2024 election.
On Thursday, former President Donald Trump went to Capitol Hill to meet with congressional Republicans.
It was the first time he had been back since he was president.
But before that meeting, Trump had another important visit with a GOP governor.
On Wednesday, the former president and Governor Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) met at Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C., which is in the northern part of Virginia.
According to reports, Trump and Youngkin spoke about several things, but did not discuss Youngkin’s status as a potential running mate for the former president.
The two Republicans also talked about how Donald Trump can secure Virginia in the upcoming presidential election.
When asked about Youngkin being his potential VP, Trump told Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie that the governor is “very good.”
“He’s great. And I think I could consider that. Yes. I haven’t, I haven’t been asked that question, but he would be on that list. He’s very good. We had a great meeting about Virginia,” Donald Trump remarked.
When running for governor of Virginia back in 2021, Youngkin didn’t associate much with Trump. The former president did hold a virtual rally for the governor, however.
And soon before Donald Trump announced his 2024 presidential candidacy, he went after Glenn Youngkin by posting about him on Truth Social. At the time, the Old Dominion governor was considered as a possible GOP presidential candidate.
“Young Kin (now that’s an interesting take. Sounds Chinese, doesn’t it?) in Virginia couldn’t have won without me. I Endorsed him, did a very big Trump Rally for him telephonically, go MAGA to Vote for him – or he couldn’t have come close to winning. But he knows that, and admits it. Besides, having a hard time with the Dems in Virginia – But he’ll get it done!” Trump said in his Truth Social post from 2022.
Youngkin didn’t think much of the attack at the time, and said, “That’s not the way I roll,” when questioned about former President Trump’s attacks.
But since then, the two seem to have a better relationship, with the governor endorsing Trump back in March.
“Voters in the Commonwealth and across the country have spoken loudly for President Donald J. Trump and I endorse him for President of the United States,” Glenn Youngkin said at the time.
“His record on border security, restoring American leadership around the world, reducing taxes and lowering the cost of living for all Americans stands in stark contrast to the open borders, failed leadership on the global stage, rampant inflation and higher costs of today. It’s time to unite around strong leadership and policies that grow our great nation, not four more years of President Biden.”
Donald Trump lost Virginia in both 2016 and 2020.
But he believes that he’s in serious contention for the Old Dominion state this time around.
And with Governor Youngkin’s help, that may be a real possibility come election day.
