Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is in trouble. He could very well be looking at a blowout loss this November.
And election news out of this blue state has the Biden campaign crippled with fear.
It’s been a long time since states like Virginia, New Jersey, New York, and Minnesota have been won by a Republican presidential candidate.
In past elections, Democrats have been able to secure electoral votes from these states with relative ease.
But this election year, one of these states won’t be so easy for Joe Biden and his campaign to win.
In fact, latest polling shows that Biden could very well lose this reliably blue state come election day.
Trump Leads in Virginia According to New Poll
Former President Donald Trump holds a very slight lead over President Joe Biden in the crucial state of Virginia, according to a new poll.
A Virginia Commonwealth University-Wilder School poll shows Trump leading Biden 39% to 36% in the commonwealth.
Conducted among 806 adults in the commonwealth from June 24 through July 3, the survey captured opinions shortly before and after the June 27 debate between Biden and Trump but wrapped up before the assassination attempt on the former president on Saturday.
The survey reveals that while Trump’s support remains steady compared to the January VCU poll, with 39% in July versus 40% in January, Biden has experienced a significant drop of roughly 7 points, falling from 43% in January to 36% in July.
Trump’s campaign has claimed this as evidence that they can compete in Virginia and other blue states.
“I think the results show that Virginia is truly a ‘battleground state’ for the presidency,” VCU staff member and former Virginia Gov. L. Douglas Wilder said in a press release.
Contrasting the VCU findings, a poll released Monday by the New York Times and Siena College showed Biden with a 3-point lead over Trump in Virginia, within that survey’s margin of error.
Similarly, Trump’s lead in the VCU poll falls within its margin of error of plus or minus 4.81 points.
Virginia has been rated “likely Democratic” by the Cook Political Report, with no Republican presidential candidate winning the state since 2004.
However, Republicans secured victories in all three of the most recent statewide races in 2021, winning the governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general positions.
Biden’s declining poll numbers in battleground states such as Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin have the Trump campaign eyeing opportunities in states like Virginia and Minnesota.
In the RealClearPolitics polling average, Trump and Biden are tied in Virginia. Nationally, Trump leads Biden, 47.1% to 44.4%.
