There’s an ongoing war in Washington, D.C. The battle lines have been drawn.

But one U.S. Senator went rogue and has risked his career to confess this about President Trump.

Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman Supports Donald Trump’s Middle East Peace Plans

Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has voiced his support for the deployment of U.S. troops to the Gaza Strip, aligning with a controversial proposal by former President Donald Trump to take control of the region. Fetterman’s endorsement follows Trump’s assertion that the U.S. should step in to help end the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas by taking charge of Gaza.

In an interview with Jewish Insider, Fetterman shared his perspective on the situation, citing the failure of the Palestinian government to provide the necessary security and economic development for its people. He pointed to the tragic October 7th attacks as a turning point, suggesting that Gaza must be rebuilt as a consequence of these events.

“The Palestinians have refused, or they’ve been unwilling to deliver a government that provided security and economic development for themselves,” Fetterman said. “They allowed 10/7 to occur, and now Gaza has to be rebuilt. Where are the people going to live? Where are they going to go? So it’s a part of a conversation with where they’re at right now.”

Fetterman’s comments underscore his support for action, though he acknowledged uncertainty about the exact role U.S. troops would play in the situation. Despite this, he made it clear that he was in favor of their involvement. “I don’t know what the role of U.S. troops is, but they’re obviously a part of it, and I fully support it,” Fetterman stated.

This alignment with Trump’s vision of U.S. intervention comes amid a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and follows Trump’s surprise announcement on Tuesday evening that the U.S. would “take over” the Gaza Strip in order to bring the Israel-Hamas war to a resolution. Trump’s words echoed the need for stability in Gaza, referencing the dangerous conditions that many Palestinians face in the region.

“They’re living under fallen concrete that’s very dangerous and very precarious,” Trump remarked during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “They instead can occupy all of a beautiful area with homes and safety, and they can live out their lives in peace and harmony instead of having to go back and do it again,” Trump added. “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too.”

The idea of deploying troops to Gaza is still speculative, though White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt suggested on Wednesday that Trump may be keeping all options open. Leavitt explained that Trump’s approach is to maintain leverage in negotiations, ensuring that all possibilities remain on the table.

“I think the president is very good when he’s making deals and negotiating not to rule out anything because he wants to preserve that leverage in negotiations,” Leavitt said.

Fetterman’s backing of Trump’s proposal stands in contrast to most other Democratic lawmakers, many of whom have sharply criticized Trump’s plan. Several have accused the former president of endorsing policies that could amount to “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians. Democratic Representative Al Green from Texas announced his intention to file articles of impeachment against Trump, expressing his opposition to the proposal as a betrayal of ethical principles.

Despite the pushback from many of his party peers, Fetterman has long been a firm supporter of Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas and other groups backed by Iran in the region. His stance on foreign policy has often diverged from that of his fellow Senate Democrats. For example, he has voted in favor of several of Trump’s cabinet nominees and has even co-sponsored legislation aimed at curbing illegal immigration—measures that Trump signed into law on January 29.

In a further sign of his willingness to break from traditional Democratic norms, Fetterman was the first Democratic lawmaker to visit President Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate, a visit that symbolized his independent approach to the political landscape.
