Fetterman was looking like he’d be a moderate Democrat. He’s now showing he’s a radical like the rest of his party.
And Senator John Fetterman made an announcement that has Trump exploding with anger.
Sen John Fetterman (D-PA) was starting to look promising. Sure, he was never going to fully support every conservative issue, but he did signal he was in favor of stopping illegal immigration and has called out some of the radicalism of the Democrat Party.
He also mentioned that he was willing to sit down and meet with many of President Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees, something not all of his Leftist colleagues agreed to do. There was even hope that Fetterman would cast an affirming vote to confirm most if not all of Trump’s nominees.
But now it’s looking like that’s no longer the case. While the senator did vote “yes” on a few of Trump’s cabinet picks, some of the president’s most crucial ones won’t be afforded that same luxury by Fetterman.
Fetterman Rejects Kennedy and Gabbard for Trump Cabinet
Senator John Fetterman, D-Pa., has announced his opposition to the confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and former Representative Tulsi Gabbard for positions in President Donald Trump’s cabinet.
Trump selected Kennedy to head the Department of Health and Human Services and tapped Gabbard to serve as Director of National Intelligence. However, Fetterman made it clear that he will not support their confirmations.
“I have met with most of the cabinet nominees and have carefully watched their confirmation hearings. After considering what’s at stake, I have voted against moving forward to the confirmation of Ms. Gabbard and Mr. Kennedy, and will be voting NO on their confirmations,” Fetterman stated in a post on X Thursday night.
Kennedy, who initially launched a campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2023 before transitioning to an independent bid, later dropped out and endorsed Trump in 2024. His former running mate, Nicole Shanahan, did not hold back in her criticism of Fetterman following his announcement.
Shanahan took to social media to lambaste the senator, who is well known for his casual attire, calling him a “lazy slob.”
“Fetterman toys with the ideal of being a strong American Man, but he is a lazy slob who can’t get to the gym in spite of wearing gym clothes all day long. I do not expect someone who can’t manage to dress themself to make good decisions, let alone those as important as the health of a nation,” Shanahan wrote in a post on X.
She followed up with further criticism, saying, “I’m not trolling. This is an honest assessment given the outfit he wore to the President of the United State’s Inauguration. What can you realistically expect from someone who treats the American people like this?”
Gabbard, who served in Congress as a Democrat from 2013 to 2021, launched a presidential bid in 2019 before withdrawing and endorsing Joe Biden in 2020. She later distanced herself from the Democratic Party, formally leaving in 2022. By 2024, she had embraced the Republican Party and endorsed Trump.
Although Fetterman has supported some of Trump’s cabinet picks, he stood with his Democratic colleagues in opposing the confirmation of Russell Vought for Office of Management and Budget director. Despite their resistance, Vought was confirmed in a 53-47 vote.
Vought, who previously held the same position during the first Trump administration, has been a controversial figure due to his involvement with Project 2025, a policy agenda pushed by conservative groups.
“Last year, I called out the dangers of Project 2025 and the damage it’d do to our country. Americans were assured the Trump team had no ties to it—then nominated one of its authors to lead OMB. My view has not changed and I will be a hard NO on Mr. Vought,” Fetterman declared in another social media post on Thursday.
With tensions running high over Trump’s cabinet selections, Fetterman’s vocal stance reveals that he’s still very caught up in the radicalism of the Left. He may be moderate on a few issues here and there, but his DNA hasn’t changed and he’s very much a strong ally of the Democrat Party.
