Donald Trump has always been fond of Fox News. They’ve been one of the only news outlets to treat him fairly.

And what Trump and Fox News just teamed up for will leave your head spinning.

President Trump Taps Fox News Star Jeanine Pirro for Interim US Attorney Role in Washington, DC

In a bold move to shape his administration, President Donald Trump turned to a familiar face from Fox News on Thursday, naming Jeanine Pirro, co-host of “The Five,” as the interim US Attorney for the District of Columbia. The announcement, made via Truth Social, highlights Pirro’s extensive legal background and her reputation as a formidable figure in New York’s judicial landscape.

“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York,” Trump declared. “She is in a class by herself.” He added, “Congratulations Jeanine!”

Pirro, 73, brings a wealth of experience to the role. A graduate of Albany Law School, she spent 15 years as a prosecutor in Westchester County, climbing to assistant district attorney before winning election as a judge in 1990.

Three years later, she made history as the first woman elected Westchester County District Attorney, a position she held for three terms. Known for her fierce advocacy, Pirro earned praise for her relentless pursuit of justice, particularly in cases of domestic violence.

“During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime,” Trump said. “Her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau in her Prosecutor’s Office was the first in the Nation. She excelled in all ways.”

A Fox News Media spokesperson reflected on Pirro’s tenure with the network, telling the New York Post that she’s been “a wonderful addition to ‘The Five’ over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.”

Pirro’s journey in public life extends beyond the courtroom. In 2005, she briefly campaigned for a New York Senate seat against Hillary Clinton but withdrew months later.

In 2006, she ran as the Republican nominee for New York attorney general, losing to Andrew Cuomo. Pirro later transitioned to media, starring in the courtroom reality show “Judge Jeanine Pirro” on the CW before joining Fox News in 2011.

The appointment follows Trump’s decision earlier Thursday to withdraw Ed Martin’s nomination for the same role after Senate Republicans expressed reservations. “He’s a terrific person, and he wasn’t getting the support from people that I thought,” Trump said regarding Martin, whose acting tenure as DC’s top federal prosecutor was set to end May 20.

“I can only lift that little phone so many times in a day, but we have somebody else that will be great,” he noted.

Pirro’s selection continues Trump’s pattern of tapping Fox News personalities for key positions in his second term. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, were former hosts on the network before being named to Cabinet roles.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and former Surgeon General nominee Janette Nesheiwat also served as Fox News contributors.

On Wednesday, Trump replaced Nesheiwat with Casey Means, a prominent advocate for the “Make America Healthy Again” movement.

With her legal acumen and high-profile media presence, Pirro is poised to make a significant impact in her new role, further cementing Trump’s reliance on trusted allies to advance his agenda in Washington.
