Joe Biden has had a rough few months. And there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel for him.
As Biden was humiliated during a campaign rally after Kamala Harris and Leftist allies abandoned him.
In a telling moment of the changing political landscape, Vice President Kamala Harris handed the podium to President Joe Biden at a joint event on Thursday, only to witness dozens of attendees quietly leave, signaling a lack of enthusiasm for the outgoing commander-in-chief.
This departure emphasizes the growing excitement among Democrats for Harris, who recently became the party’s presidential nominee following Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race last month.
Harris, 59, is working to reshape her image and create distance from the unpopular incumbent as she charts her own path.
The event took an uncomfortable turn when Biden and Harris greeted an overflow room, where multiple protesters accused Biden of facilitating “genocide” in Gaza. Biden, who has struggled with low turnout at his own rallies this year, faced a stark contrast with Harris, who has been attracting large crowds since stepping into the presidential race.
Harris, known for her shifting positions on various issues since her 2020 White House bid, attempted to align herself with Biden’s popular prescription drug policy at the event. However, she has also made subtle moves to distinguish herself on other fronts.
Held at Prince George’s Community College, the event drew approximately 2,300 attendees, according to the White House. They endured long lines and near-90-degree heat to hear Harris and Biden speak. The event was primarily focused on celebrating the announcement of reduced prescription drug prices for seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D, set to take effect in 2026.
These savings, expected to total $1.5 billion annually for medications such as Januvia, Enbrel, and Eliquis, are a part of Biden’s efforts to ease financial burdens on seniors. Meanwhile, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is campaigning on his own plan to eliminate taxes on Social Security income, aiming to appeal to the same demographic.
The mood at the event felt more like a rally for Harris, who would become the first female and second non-white president if she wins the election on November 5. Harris, who has consistently drawn crowds exceeding 10,000 since becoming the Democratic nominee, led the audience in a chant of “Thank you Joe!” when discussing the drug-price reform, a key component of the failed Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.
Harris played a pivotal role in the passage of this law, which did virtually nothing to reduce inflation, casting the tie-breaking vote in the Senate.
Biden’s decision to drop his re-election bid on July 21 came after mounting concerns within the Democratic Party about his mental fitness, particularly after his stumbling performance in a debate against former President Donald Trump on June 27. In that debate, Biden appeared confused, at one point claiming he had “finally beat Medicare.” He echoed a similar sentiment in his Thursday speech, stating, “We finally beat Big Pharma.”
Although Biden had called for a more civil election campaign after Trump survived an assassination attempt last month, he adopted aggressive rhetoric at the Maryland event, declaring, “Let me tell you what our Project 2025 is: Beat the h*ll out of them.”
Is Harris Distancing Herself From Biden?
In response to rumors that Harris may distance herself from Biden on policy issues, the president firmly denied it, saying, “She’s not going to,” when asked by Fox News’ Peter Doocy about potential differences in their economic approaches.
While Biden has attempted to shift blame for rising prices onto corporate greed, his arguments have often fallen flat with the public. Despite being tasked with addressing illegal immigration in 2021, Harris has shown little interest in the role, instead emphasizing her past work as a prosecutor targeting criminal organizations.
Harris has also managed to avoid the kind of criticism Biden has faced on Israel’s actions in Gaza. By stating that Israel was k*lling “far too many” civilians, Harris has largely sidestepped the anti-Israel heckling that disrupted Biden’s events this year.
Over the course of her political career, Harris has flip-flopped her positions on several key issues.
While she once advocated for banning fracking, decriminalizing illegal border crossings, and pursuing single-payer healthcare, she has since moved away from or revised these stances as she prepares to lead her party into the November election.
This is clearly a campaign strategy to try and trick voters into thinking she’s not a radical Leftist candidate.
Here’s a hint: she definitely is.
