The Left-leaning media is in a complete freefall. They can see the writing on the wall, and it isn’t good.
And now CNN HQ is on fire after being hit with the worst news possible.
Former CNN host Don Lemon had his lowest morning show ratings of the year at the start of the year, but things got worse when he made inflammatory remarks regarding Republican presidential contender Nikki Haley.
Lemon struggled to gain viewers for his new morning show, CNN This Morning, in 2023.
He had quit his prime-time television spot in late 2022, claiming on-air that it was a “promotion.”
In response to Haley’s announcement of a presidential run in February, Lemon called her “past her prime” and said she was “past her prime.”
“This whole talk about age makes me uncomfortable,” Lemon said.
“I think it’s the wrong road to go down. She says people, you know, politicians are suddenly not in their prime. Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime, sorry. When a woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.”
Following those remarks, he was benched and ordered to attend “formal training.”
Lemon would apologize and declare that he was “committed to doing better.” However, CNN fired the morning host in April.
CNN CEO Chris Licht was also let go in June after less than a year on the job. Kaitlan Collins, Lemon’s previous morning show co-host, was promoted to a prime-time TV slot with her own show, The Source, in July.
The network debuted new programming in early December with the King Charles show, hosted by Gayle King and retired NBA great Charles Barkley.
Its premiere resulted in CNN’s lowest prime-time debut in a decade.
The network changes did little to help CNN outperform its rivals, Fox News and MSNBC.
According to ratings data, the network improved 16% in overall prime-time viewers and 25% in the prime-time core demographic of ages 25-54 in October 2023 compared to the previous year.
Despite this, CNN ranked eighth on basic cable in total prime-time viewers and tenth in the prime-time key demographic that month.
Fox News has been the top-rated cable news network in total viewers and the 25-54 key demographic for nearly three years in a row.
CNN also closed its original headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, in October of this year. In an effort to minimize expenses, AT&T, the network’s former parent company, sold the CNN Center in 2021 to Florida-based real estate firms CP Group and Rialto Capital Management for approximately $164 million.
The network relocated its operations to Warner Bros. Discovery’s Techwood Turner Broadcasting site a few miles north.
