The Left doesn’t have any underlying principles. All they want is power.
And now this Democrat got dragged after being exposed as a total coward.
Debate Spotlights Spanberger’s Stance
Virginia Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Rep. Abigail Spanberger drew sharp online rebukes as “pathetic” and a “coward” for declining to withdraw her backing of fellow Democrat Jay Jones—who texted wishes of death against a rival and his kids—during Thursday’s debate.
Conservative commentator Steve Guest observed that Spanberger “was REPEATEDLY asked about her unhinged running mate, AG candidate Jay Jones, in the wake of his murderous threats being made public. Spanberger wouldn’t say that she denounces him. Truly pathetic.”
Prominent school-choice advocate Corey DeAngelis stated, “She needs to drop out. Now.”
“The Democrat candidate for Virginia Governor repeatedly REFUSED to pull her endorsement of the guy who fantasized about MURDERING his political opponent. He wished death upon CHILDREN,” DeAngelis added.
The Virginia GOP posted a statement on X post-debate: “The principle here is simple: if Abigail Spanberger can’t tell someone who fantasizes about murdering children to drop out of the race, she does not deserve to be our next governor.”
Conservative personality Eric Daugherty labeled Spanberger’s refusal to retract support “brutal.”
“This is bad,” he wrote.
RNC Research declared: “Abigail Spanberger stands with Jay Jones. She is a weak COWARD!”
Meghan McCain posted: “Watching my next Governor Winsome Sears absolutely filet Abigail Spanberger in the debate. There is no competition, Spanberger won’t answer basic questions and coming off like a total radical extremist.”
Youngkin’s Rebuke and Debate Pressure
Current Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin voiced revulsion that Spanberger “continues to stand behind her running mate who wanted to see a man and his children murdered.”
“Abigail, you had your chance to show courage and moral clarity and you failed,” wrote Youngkin.
Spanberger endured persistent grilling Thursday over her ongoing endorsement of attorney general contender Jay Jones, after texts emerged where he imagined firing “two bullets” into then-Republican Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert’s head.
In messages to another lawmaker, Jones stated, “Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.”
Jones continued in a follow-up: “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.”
Jones further expressed hopes that Gilbert’s children would perish, insisting in more texts that such loss could prove “a good thing” to boost his agenda.
Debate moderators and Republican rival Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears pressed Spanberger multiple times on whether she still backed Jones, yet she stopped short of declaring the endorsement over.
Spanberger also dodged queries on when she first saw the incendiary texts, which targeted Gilbert’s young children with violent language.
“Jay Jones advocated the murder — Abigail — the murder of a man, a former speaker, as well as his children who were 2 years and 5 years old. You have little girls. Would it take him pulling the trigger? Is that what would do it?” Earle-Sears asked. “Please ask him to get out of the race. Have some courage.”
Spanberger’s Defense and Countercharge
Spanberger countered the probes by noting, “As of now, it’s up to every voter to make their own individual decision. I am running for governor. I am accountable for the words that I say, for the acts that I take, for the policies that I have put out.”
Spanberger stressed she condemned the language immediately upon learning of it and pledged to reject violent speech whenever possible.
At the same time, Spanberger charged Earle-Sears with condemning violence only against her own party, not opponents’, pointing to last month’s Kirk memorial service where Trump allegedly remarked, “I hate my opponent and I don’t want the best for them.”
