President Donald Trump is swinging hard against the corporate giants squeezing America’s beef industry, directing the Department of Justice to launch an investigation into the “Big Four” meatpackers accused of rigging prices and colluding to fleece hardworking ranchers and everyday consumers.
In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump laid out his battle plan to defend American interests from these foreign-dominated behemoths that dominate the nation’s beef supply.
“I have asked the DOJ to immediately begin an investigation into the Meat Packing Companies who are driving up the price of Beef through Illicit Collusion, Price Fixing, and Price Manipulation,” Trump said in his post.
“We will always protect our American Ranchers, and they are being blamed for what is being done by Majority Foreign Owned Meat Packers, who artificially inflate prices, and jeopardize the security of our Nation’s food supply. Action must be taken immediately to protect Consumers, combat Illegal Monopolies, and ensure these Corporations are not criminally profiting at the expense of the American People. I am asking the DOJ to act expeditiously. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
This move comes as no surprise from a leader who’s always put America First, targeting the shady practices that have left cattle prices tumbling while the cost of beef at the store skyrockets, leaving families paying more for less.
Trump pointed out the glaring red flag in the market: while prices for live cattle have dropped, the wholesale cost of boxed beef keeps climbing. “Therefore, you know that something is ‘fishy,’” he said.
He’s vowing swift action to uncover the truth and hold the guilty accountable. “We will get to the bottom of it very quickly,” Trump stated. “If there is criminality, those people responsible will pay a steep price!”
American cattle ranchers, long battered by these corporate overlords, are cheering this decisive step. Groups like R-CALF USA, fighting tooth and nail for producers against industry giants, hailed Trump’s directive as a game-changer.
“We greatly appreciate President Trump’s announcement that he’s directed the Department of Justice to investigate the beef supply chain to determine if there are any violations of our fair competition laws or antitrust laws,” CEO Bill Bullard stated.
“There has long been a disconnect between cattle prices and beef prices, and we believe this is evidence of market failure. We welcome this investigation to ensure that cattle producers receive competitive prices for their cattle, and that consumers pay prices set by a competitive market rather than a monopolistic one.”
At the heart of the probe are the Big Four: Brazil-owned JBS, along with Cargill, Tyson Foods, and National Beef. These powerhouses are suspected of trampling antitrust laws to lock down control over beef supplies and dictate prices across the U.S.
Back in 1980, these same companies held just 36 percent of the American beef market, allowing real competition to thrive and keep things fair for farmers and buyers alike.
Fast forward to today, and they’ve ballooned their grip to a staggering 85 percent, turning the industry into a rigged game where small ranchers get crushed underfoot.
A hard-hitting White House press release pulls no punches on how this takeover has wrecked havoc. “Industry consolidation has crushed competition and hammered cattle producers. In the 1980s, the top four packers purchased one-third of all fed cattle; by the mid-1990s, that share exploded to over 80% and has only grown more concentrated since,” it states.
“This has led to the exploitation of American consumers, farmers, and ranchers.”
“In fact, mounting evidence shows this monopoly power has slashed payments to ranchers, reduced herd sizes, driven up consumer prices, and threatened America’s food supply chain.”
With foreign influences like JBS calling the shots, Trump’s push is a bold stand to reclaim the United States’s food security and stop these cartels from profiting off the backs of red-blooded Americans who built this country.
