Kamala Harris Faces Criticism for Pledging to End Taxes on Tips
Vice President Kamala Harris is facing a barrage of criticism after making a campaign pledge during a rally in Las Vegas on Saturday to eliminate taxes on tips.
This policy, which has been a key point in former President Donald Trump’s campaign, has led to accusations that Harris is merely copying Trump’s ideas.
The controversy erupted shortly after Harris made her promise, with Trump and his supporters wasting no time in accusing the Democratic vice president of plagiarism.
Trump’s political allies were quick to highlight that the Harris administration had, just last year, implemented a new enforcement program aimed at collecting more taxes on tips.
“Now is a good time to remind everyone that #CopyCatKamala’s administration rolled out a new enforcement program JUST LAST YEAR to collect more taxes on tips! She could stop it now… but she won’t, because she’s a dishonest fraud!” Trump campaign political director James Blair said in a post on X.

Trump himself also weighed in, accusing Harris of adopting his idea solely for political gain.
In a post on Truth Social, he stated, “Kamala Harris, whose ‘Honeymoon’ period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the Polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy. The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! This was a TRUMP idea – She has no ideas, she can only steal from me. Remember, Kamala has proposed the LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY – It won’t happen. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
At the rally, Harris emphasized her commitment to supporting working families, stating, “It is my promise to everyone here, when I am president, we will continue our fight for working families of America, including raising the minimum wage and eliminating taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

However, Trump’s allies were quick to point out that Harris is currently in a position of power as Vice President and questioned why she hasn’t already taken action on this issue. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH), Trump’s running mate, posted on X, “Given that she runs the government why doesn’t she do it now?”

The criticism didn’t stop there. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) echoed similar sentiments, stating on X, “Besides literally stealing Trump’s NO TAX ON TIPS plan, the most pathetic part about this is that Kamala is VP right now but can’t deliver any of her promises. Kamala is a fake candidate that never received a single vote and is making fake promises she refuses to deliver NOW.”
Donald Trump Jr. also joined the chorus of disapproval, mocking the Harris campaign with a post on X that read, “Harris-Walz 2024: Stolen proposals and stolen valor!”
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, also voiced his disapproval, writing on X, “Unreal! Kamala just stole President Trump’s no tax on tips. What a shameless phony.”
Whether this issue will continue to dominate the conversation remains to be seen, but for now, the idea theft from Kamala Harris is front and center in the ongoing battle for the presidency.
