Some Democrats are starting to slowly wake up to their own party’s radicalism. They’re sick of losing to Republicans.
And this Leftist Senator went scorched earth on the Democrat Party in a viral rant.
Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman didn’t mince words when analyzing why Democrats have struggled to connect with male voters, particularly in the face of President-elect Donald Trump’s growing popularity.
Speaking with The New York Times, Fetterman called out his own party for alienating this critical demographic with attitudes he described as “condescending” and “insulting.”
“It was clear [in 2016] that people were voting for Trump,” Fetterman said in the interview Thursday. “And the Democrats’ response was, ‘Aren’t they smart enough to realize they’re voting against their interests?’ And that’s insulting, and that’s, I mean, that’s, that’s just not helpful.”
“It’s condescending. And if anything, that reinforces that kind of stereotype. Telling them that ‘I know better than you do,’ that’s not helpful.”
The 55-year-old senator’s critique sheds light on Trump’s undeniable success in winning over male voters across various demographics, including Black and Latino men, as well as younger male voters.
On Election Day, Trump, 78, made significant gains with this group, paving his way to a decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
Fetterman also criticized Democrats for what he described as an obsessive overreaction to every move made by Trump, who is now poised to embark on his second term in the Oval Office.
“I’m just saying buckle up and pack a lunch because it’s going to be four years of this,” Fetterman warned.
“And if you have a choice to freak out, you know, on the hour, then that’s your right. But I will not. I’m not that dude, I’m not that Democrat. I’m going to pick my fights. If you freak out on everything, you lose any kind of relevance.”
Fetterman’s sharp commentary extended to the growing influence of billionaire Elon Musk, who is set to lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency alongside Vivek Ramaswamy under Trump’s administration.
According to Fetterman, Musk’s popularity with the so-called “bros” demographic — a group that Democrats have struggled to engage — cannot be underestimated.
“Whether it’s the ‘bros,’ that negative term that perhaps even your publications uses as a negative, it’s the bros, or, you know, males, blue-collar guys, just people,” Fetterman explained.
“It’s very rare, in my opinion, that surrogates have ‘fanboys.’ Making fun of [Musk] or make light of it, you do that at your peril, because it is going to matter.”
The senator acknowledged Musk’s financial contributions to Trump’s campaign but emphasized the tech mogul’s broader influence over a demographic Democrats cannot afford to ignore.
“He was an active surrogate — and I mean, his checkbook was helpful. That wasn’t really the defining facet for me. I was concerned that he’s going to have a lot of sway with a part of the demographic that the Democrats have to win and we’ve struggled with,” Fetterman said.
Fetterman’s candid assessment comes as a wake-up call for Democrats to rethink their approach and reconnect with male voters who have increasingly gravitated toward Trump’s platform.
With the political landscape shifting towards Trump, the stakes for the party’s future success couldn’t be higher.
