Attorney General Merrick Garland got grilled by the Senate for his politicization and weaponization of the DOJ.
A close Biden associate is threatening to release dirt on the Biden family’s business dealings.
And now Stacey Abrams is feeling the heat from investigators in the state of Georgia.
The Georgia Secretary of State’s office is looking into “financial irregularities” in lost gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams’ New Georgia Project.
The investigation into Abrams’ voting-rights organization comes after The Washington Free Beacon reported on financial irregularities by some of the charity’s former top employees. Subpoenas are expected to be issued soon in the state inquiry.
The New Georgia Project was discovered seeking donations in at least nine states without a license in December.
Before raising funds within a state’s borders, certain state laws require organizations to make financial reports with the IRS.
The New Georgia Project was discovered to be missing around $600,000 in unaccounted-for spending last month.
According to the group’s financial records for 2021, it paid $533,846 in consulting fees and $67,500 in grant money to the Black Male Initiative. Yet, the Black Male Initiative never acknowledged receiving the funds.
The 2021 files were sent to the IRS two months after they were due and three months after the resignation of former New Georgia Project CEO Nse Ufot.
Ufot is a Nigerian-born community organizer who was residing in Canada when Abrams approached her about running the New Georgia Project in 2014. In October, Ufot departed the group.
According to nonprofit specialists questioned by the Free Beacon, the New Georgia Project’s 2020 financial reports revealed $0 paid in payroll taxes despite employing 173 people, an abnormality and red flag. Several abnormalities were also included in the financial forms.
Abrams is a well-known voting rights activist who ran unsuccessfully for governor of Georgia twice. Abrams was defeated by Republican Governor Brian Kemp in her most recent run for Georgia’s top job in 2022.
Abrams has returned to activism in the aftermath of her election failure. She was in Nigeria this week to monitor elections with a group from the International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute.
“I would say that despite a slow start with the [violence]” said Abrams, updating a reporter on the state of the election.
“We have seen orderly lines, we have seen long lines, signaling strong enthusiasm. But we’ve also seen a great deal of cooperation and a very peaceful conversation among voters. They want to be heard, and they are willing to stand in line and have patience because they know that’s their path to progress.”
