Donald Trump is the leading candidate in the 2024 presidential race thus far. That’s caused many Republicans to want to become his running mate.
And the Trump VP race is heating up thanks to an unexpected twist by this candidate.
Many Republicans are itching to possibly be named former President Donald Trump’s running mate for the 2024 election.
Trump currently leads President Joe Biden in numerous polls, and he’s clearly got momentum on his side and voters are growing frustrated with the Biden administration.
He’s practically wrapped up the GOP nomination for president, so his next major step is to pick a running mate.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) believes that he would be the best option to become Trump’s vice president.
Scott, who previously ran as a Republican presidential candidate this election cycle, has been a loyal supporter of Trump’s ever since he dropped out of the race in November.
“It’s very clear that Tim Scott is doing everything he can to build his relationship with Donald Trump in an attempt to get picked as VP,” a source who has close ties to the Trump campaign said to the New York Post.
“It’s pretty clear he’s one of the people who is being considered.”
Back in February, Scott spoke with the Wall Street Journal and told them that he felt like his role supporting Donald Trump was a more comfortable one than the role he had in supporting himself as a presidential candidate.
Specifically, he said that he was “free from the internal struggle on how to promote myself without being braggadocious.”
Scott has also been present on the campaign trail with the former president quite a bit this year.
But despite that, Trump hasn’t let anyone know whether or not Scott or any other potential VP candidates have gained an edge in his eyes.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD), former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), are also names on Trump’s vice presidential shortlist.
A former Scott presidential campaign supporter gave some insight on the South Carolina Senator’s chances at becoming Donald Trump’s running mate.
“The senator has a unique role within the Republican Party and I think the former president appreciates that,” the individual said.
“I think he appreciates how he conducted himself on the national stage when he ran for president. And the message that he offered obviously differs from the president … and I do think there’s likely an effort to provide a degree of balance to the ticket.”
So, is Tim Scott the man to beat to become Trump’s next vice presidential pick?
There’s no official word on that yet, but it looks he could very well be near the top of Trump’s list based on the effort his putting forth.
