Scandals keep following the Walz/Harris campaign. But no one was expecting this.
And Tim Walz and Kamala Harris’s husband were caught on video doing this one despicable thing.
During a recent visit to Otro Café in Phoenix, Arizona, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) stirred up controversy when they walked away from the counter without paying for their order. The incident was captured in a video posted to X (formerly known as Twitter), where Walz’s daughter can be seen explaining the situation to the café staff.
As the video shows, after placing their order, Walz’s daughter tells the staff that she’ll “wait” for the tea while indicating that “someone will be up” to settle the bill, referring to a campaign staffer. “I’ll wait for your tea,” she says as her father and Emhoff exit the counter area. Once the tea is handed over, she thanks the worker and reiterates that “someone will be up here to pay.” The worker appears unbothered, replying, “It’s okay,” but Walz’s daughter reassures them, saying, “Right, well no, like, he’s coming. Thank you so much.”
Despite the clarification, the video sparked online criticism. Some viewers took issue with the fact that a staffer, rather than the two men, was handling the payment. One post on X sarcastically remarked, “These guys are just like you and me. They take their food without paying and have an assistant pay for them.”

Another commenter chimed in with a jab, suggesting that the incident reflected a sense of entitlement: “They are accustomed to the taxpayer paying their bills.”
Journalist Ian Miles Cheong also weighed in, writing, “This is so embarrassing, Tim Walz and Doug Emhoff left a restaurant without paying, prompting Tim’s daughter to inform staff that someone would be along to pay for their bill. Totally a middle class thing, am I right.”
The event took place on the first day of early voting in Arizona, according to AZCentral. Stephanie Murray, a national politics reporter for the outlet, confirmed that Walz and Emhoff were there with their children. She also noted that Walz had ordered an iced tea and a morning bun during their café stop.
Murray shared her observations on X, posting, “Tim Walz and Doug Emhoff stop at Otro Café in Phoenix for pastries with their kids. It’s the first day of early voting in Arizona. From what I could hear, the governor ordered an iced tea and a morning bun.”
The online reaction to the video was swift and critical, with many users focusing on the optics of having someone else handle the payment, whether or not it was intended as part of the visit.
Harris/Walz Failing To Relate To Average Americans
Kamala Harris is constantly reminding voters that she comes from the middle class. But that reminder is doing nothing to help how she’s viewed by those who currently are in the middle class.
She and her running mate are completely out of touch with the average American who has struggled mightily during the Biden/Harris administration.
And while Harris tries to prove that she’s normal and in-touch with the middle class – by drinking a beer with a late night talk show host – these efforts are falling short.
Even her husband and running mate are missing the mark with how they didn’t pay for their food at a café like a normal American would.
These are all just examples of how the Harris/Walz campaign is doing a pitiful job of voter outreach.
And with election day quickly approaching, they may soon find out the consequences of their failures on the campaign trail.
