Tim Walz falls flat on his face during abysmal CNN interview

Gov. Walz is supposed to do all he can to make the Harris ticket look good. But unsurprisingly, he isn’t able to accomplish that.

As Tim Walz falls flat on his face during an abysmal CNN interview.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, now the Democratic vice presidential nominee, faced renewed criticism over his past statements regarding his military service during a sit-down interview with CNN’s Dana Bash.

In the interview, Walz again addressed his previous claim that he had “carried weapons in war” while serving in the National Guard, despite having never been deployed to a combat zone.

Bash questioned Walz directly, asking, “I want to ask you a question about how you’ve described your service in the National Guard. You said that you carried weapons in war, but you have never deployed actually in a war zone. A campaign official said that you misspoke. Did you?”

Walz responded by trying to defend his service and character:

Well, first of all, I’m incredibly proud. I’ve done 24 years of wearing [the] uniform of this country. Equally proud of my service in a public school classroom, whether it’s Congress or — or the governor. My record speaks for itself, but I think people are coming to get to know me. I — I speak like they do. I speak candidly. I wear my emotions on my sleeves, and I speak especially passionately about — about our children being shot in schools and around — around guns. So I think people know me. They know who I am. They know where — where my heart is, and again, my record has been out there for over 40 years to — to speak for itself.

However, Bash pressed further, asking, “And the — the idea that you said that you were in war, did you misspeak, as the campaign has said?”

Walz then clarified his previous remarks, claiming he was referring to the “ideas” of carrying weapons of war.

He stated, “Yeah, I said — we were talking about in this case, this was after a school shooting, the ideas of carrying these weapons of war. And my wife the English teacher told me my grammar’s not always correct. But again, if it’s not this, it’s an attack on my children for showing love for me, or it’s an attack on my dog. I’m not gonna do that, and the one thing I’ll never do is I’ll never demean another member’s service in any way. I never have and I never will.”

Despite his attempt to explain the comment, Walz’s earlier statements on the matter paint a different picture.

In a 2018 video shared by his own campaign, Walz clearly stated: “I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt. I’ve been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can do background checks. We can research the impacts of gun violence. We can make sure those weapons of war, that I carried in war, are only carried in war.”

His use of the phrase “that I carried in war” appears inconsistent with his claims in the interview that he was merely speaking about the concept of carrying such weapons. This discrepancy has led to further questions about Walz’s account of his military service.

Beyond the specific issue of the weapons claim, Walz has faced scrutiny throughout his political career for other statements about his time in the National Guard. He has repeatedly described himself as a “retired command sergeant major,” despite having retired as a master sergeant, a rank lower than the one he often references.

Additionally, Walz has allowed or failed to correct, claims that he served in Afghanistan, a deployment he never undertook.

Breitbart News previously reported that Walz also falsely claimed that he was eligible to retire from the military the same week as the 9/11 attacks but chose to re-enlist out of a sense of duty. In reality, he was not eligible for retirement until 2002, further calling into question the accuracy of his statements regarding his military service.

These repeated discrepancies have left many questioning Walz’s credibility on an issue that is deeply personal to millions of veterans and active-duty service members. As he steps further into the national spotlight, it remains to be seen how he will continue to cover up his lies about the extent of his military service.
